Squirrel Maths 
This recording is a mathematics tutorial, the voice over will need to sound like a professional maths teacher. The voice must sound engaging and knowledgeable. There will be lots of technical terms and the voice should not be intimidated by this.

Recording to take place in a central London recording studio.

CHAPTER 8 - Functions and graphs

Section 8.1 - Functions

Let us take a look at the definition of a function in section 8.1.1. One of the problems we often encounter in mathematics, statistics or science, is to establish a mathematical relationship between 2 sets of values, data or observations.

In science, you might well have done an experiment to investigate the relationship between the pressure and volume of a fixed mass of gas,kept at constant temperature. Or, you had to find a relationship between the potential difference across an electrical conductor and the current flowing in the conductor, provided that the temperature is kept constant.

You will notice that in both of the examples quoted, there are 3 variable quantities. In the first case, the 3 variables are pressure, volume and temperature. In the second case, they are potential difference, current and temperature. Note that in each case we have stated that the temperature should be kept constant,since a change in temperature would affect the other variable quantities. In this way, we can investigate how one of the variables changes when the other is changed.

What we want to establish is whether or not one variable volume depends on the other variable pressure, and if so, is there a definite mathemtical relationship between the two.

Look at example 1 in the manual. We are given 2 sets of numbers: set X and set Y.They are presented using a circle containing the elements of each set. Notice how the one circle is labelled X and the other one is labelled Y.

Now let us examine the 2 sets together to see if we can establish a relationship between the elements.
