Project Main Details
The spelling bee has come down to the two finalist. A sweet little All American girl named Stephanie and an illegal alien boy named Emilio. Remember - performance is way more important than voice in this. When the kids are thinking about their words you talk softly --- like a golf announcer --- so as not to disturb them. When they spell the word, win or lose, you react appropriately. You're all caught up in the tense drama and thrill of victory and agony of defeat.
I have pasted in the portions of the script that apply to the 'announcer' along with the dialog of the contestants and judge to help you get a feel for the enviroment.

ANC (hushed tone… like a golf announcer)
We’re down to the final two competitors. 10 year-old Stephanie Gilchrist and 11 year- old Emilio Lopez. Miss Gilchrist steps up to the microphone as the bell sounds (ding) to begin the final round. Judge and former vice president Daniel Quayle prepares to announce the word…
Are you ready Stephanie?
I think so…
Your word is… CEO… CEO…
CEO… (pause) could you use it in a sentence please?
Certainly… The huge investment firm was going belly-up because of gross mismanagement and the CEO received millions and millions of dollars.
Thank you. Uh… CEO… CEO… a…s…s…h…o…l…e … CEO
SFX: (hush over the crowd then the DING to signal the right answer and applause)
That’s correct Stephanie. Very good.
ANC (He/she can speak up at this point)
That was certainly a tense moment. Stephanie’s parents tell us she’s hasn’t missed a single cable-tv news program in months preparing for this moment…
SFX: (Audience quiets down. Next contestant stepping up to microphone)
ANC: (Back to being hushed)
Emilio Lopez is stepping up to the mike. He looks nervous. Emilio’s story is a remarkable one. No one knows where he’s from or how he got here. He was eventually adopted by the owners of a shoe factory, home schooled and here he is toe-to-toe with a former vice president of the United States…
Emilio, our word for you is CANDIDATE
Uh… candidate… a person who runs for political office.
“Oh… si… yes… Candidate… w…a…f…f…l…e…s Candidate!
SFX: (Buzzer signallying he’s wrong. Crowd moans but then applauds).
Sorry Emilio… we were looking for the ‘singular’… uh… “uno” not the plural… okay?”
EMILIO (still confused)
Well, there you have it. Stephanie Gilchrist is the regional West Coast spelling bee champ and a tough break for Emilio Lopez would've received a full scholarship to UCLA and a home in Costa Mesa courtesy of the citizens of California and Governor Arnold Schwartzenegger.
ARNOLD (in background)
The hell with it… lets give it to him anyway! Huh? Whattaya say!!! You with me on this???
SFX: (Spelling Bee sfx fade out)
