Simon Says short film

"Simon Says" is the story of a man whose inner voice is his own worst enemy. Simon has big ideas and even bigger dreams. The fact that he's trapped in a small life, working monotonous days in a dingy, confined "mom and pop" mailbox store makes him all the more frustrated - and all the more vulnerable to the negative thoughts that fill his head. Insecure and envious, he's grown accustomed to a life of isolation. But all that is about to change. Or so he desperately hopes.

Simon is determined to get out of his situation by coming up with new product ideas. In this scene he sits surrounded by boxes of product that never sold. The images of reel to reel tapes are a metaphor for his memories (see script below).

The VO from the DAD would be from a conversation.
The VO from the MOTHER would be from a voice mail/answering machine.

TONE: This is a drama. The tone of this film is that of complete authenticity. The intention of these recordings should be natural and real.

The Boss at the bottom of the page (played by the same actor as Simon) is the manifestation of Simon's negative voice inside his mind. The Boss is a manipulator and a liar. The film goes between Simon's life in the mailbox store and the world inside his mind, which is ruled by The Boss.

His voice will be overlaid on top of the Mother's voice. For the actor that is chosen, she will need to record her voice in the same tempo as the Boss's recorded lines. We will send her the shot with him speaking. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU RECORD THE BOSS'S LINE AT THE END.

In regards to the lack of fee, bottom line is that our post production budget was heavily eaten up during production. I can tell you that the film is far beyond what we expected. I could not be happier. The actor who played Simon/The Boss (Brian Stepanek) knocked it out of the park, in both roles.

I do think we have a very special and important story.

Thanks for your interest and in helping this story get told.

The budget is $50 per Talent.
