Here is general description of the Project:

Following heavy monsoon rains in 2011, severe flooding was caused in Sindh Province. Two days of continuous rains (starting on the 10th of August) left a record rainfall of 635 mm in Badin District of Sindh. Together with the occurrence of the ‘spring’ (high) tide, major breaches in the drain canals occurred resulting in the flooding of vast areas of Badin.

The floods caused considerable damage; an estimated 466 people were killed, with 9.1 millio¬n people and 1,485,504 homes affect¬ed. Badin was also one of the worst affected with 1.3 million people from 46 union councils (UC) and 6,395 villages badly affected. These heavy rains also damaged approximately 382,000 houses, and 0.98 million acres out of which 0.37 million acres of crops were badly damaged in Badin .

Owing to its established Programme Unit (PU) in Thatta and advanced contingency planning, Plan International (Plan) was one of the first international organizations to respond in Badin and reached some 140,000 individuals (including 35,700 children) with shelter, health and hygiene, drinking water, food and child protection interventions.

May be its not everyone’s talent to catch flying sun flower residual from a threshing machine. In cities mechanical sounds are normally considered noise. However, in villages these are triumphs of happiness that can be heard and seen.

Accompanied by Iqbal, Shahnawaz seeks to meet few farmers of village Yar Muhammad Bhurgari in Union Council Nindo of district Badin.

Few months ago, things were very different. All 46 union councils of this district were badly affected by the ravaging floods of year 2011. Due its geographical parameters, water drainage rate of Badin is extremely poor; surprisingly, even after 9 months water bodies can be seen at many locations. These stagnant water bodies uprooted economic backbone of the region, the agriculture.
