Every laser show is made up of multiple effects and each effect has hundreds or thousands of distinct frames. Each point in each frame contains a measurable amount of energy in the beam which is moving at a measurable speed and the relationship between speed and energy is what determines how safe or unsafe that moment in time might be for an eye in the scan. To determine the safety of any given point in any given frame in any given effect we need to know the total energy of the beam, the rate at which the beam is expanding as it moves through space, the distance from the laser to the nearest point of audience access, the speed at which the beam is moving, how long the beam might stay in any given spot and how quickly the safety system will respond if any of those parameters are deemed to be too high.
