Bedbugs are small, nocturnal and wingless. They’re tiny – only 4 to 5mm long when fully grown. And they feed on blood. They have been known to feed on bats or household pets, but their primary source of nutrition is human blood.

In fact, blood spotting (fecal smears) on mattresses and nearby furnishings can be a sign of bedbug infestation.

Female bedbugs can lay up to 500 eggs in a lifetime. Under normal room temperatures and with an adequate food supply, bed bugs can live over 4-5 months.

When un feed they are thin, which allows them to hide in unusual places such as behind baseboards, in floor cracks, under carpets or behind loose wallpaper. This makes them difficult to detect.

Bedbugs are found all over the world; they hitch rides inside the luggage of travelers. Though they can set up shop in unusual places, they always enjoy a nice, comfy bed. They are likely to be found in small cracks near a bed and items close to the bed.

They are often found in hotels like this one, where they come in inside luggage and make themselves at home.
