Paranormal

Paranormal is a First Person Horror game in early stages of development.

Base Story:
You are John Hart, a one-time cop turned Paranormal Investigator who lost his whole family to a unexplained murder. After the murder you lost all contact to everyone else you knew, Tommy Bencatti, and various other friends. One night, Tommy calls, asking you to come down to a Crime Scene where an unexplained murder (very similar to his families) has happened. Arriving on scene, late at night, John investigates the area, finding clues. Suddenly, a cop is shot and John is thrust forward into a chase which leads to him being framed for the murder of 6 Police Officers, barely alive and halocinating, John escapes running from the people who were once his friends. John soon stumbles onto a huge conspiracy which that makes him realize 'Nothing is what it seems'. Now John must avenge his dead, prove his innocence and expose the conspiracy, all while being chased by a demonic cult and the NYPD. With a high empasise on voice acting, Paranormal is a epic horror shooter, with distinct play mechicanics in each episode.

The Play Mechcanics:
Episode One - Proper detective theme, the scariest part of the game. you find clues and have to piece together whats happening so far, as well as sneaky parts and some action.
Episode Two - Heavily adventure based & Really Scary. Feautures our parkour (acrobatics/free jumping) sections of the game, where you are being chased by everyone.
Episode Three - Action/puzzle based. Very Scary. Your in Hell for the most of this chapter, but puzzles are a huge part of getting out of there alive.
Episode Four - Mostly huge action sequences on a massive scale. The main character is extremely pissed by this section of the game.

Episode Details:
Each Episode is three hours longs, meaning a total play time of around 12 hours. Each Episode will be released around 3 - 5 months of each other, with the Hell Episode taking around 5 and Episode One taking that time too, (because we have the problem of gathering the team.) while the others will take somewhere inbetween those times.

(Start rain sound effects, quiet theme music)
I once had a family, two old parents and a beautiful girlfriend. They were taken from me. No matter how hard I gripped on to them, they were still ripped away from my grasp. I don’t know who or what took them, who stormed into the tiny cottage and make the street echo with fear. Whatever it was, I’m certain it could not have stood the site of the bodies laying there, charred beyond belief. It even took me a minute to realize that those bodies where the people who cared for me the most, the people I cherished more than everything else on this planet. I must have seemed like an emotionless bastard at that moment, as I stared at the bodies. I knew I wasn’t. No one can imagine the bullet that shoots through you at this point; it’s not possible to instantly accept that they have gone. You would have no idea, unless you’ve stood over the charred-up carcasses known as the ones you love, not even able to recognise they’re faces. One tear crept down my cheek, but the rest of my emotions came out as anger. This marked the point of no return, of no way back. Whoever or whatever had done this, would pay. Even if it marked the end of my own path, the end of my own life…

My name is John Hart. I was once a detective, an average cop roaming the streets. This was until all those I loved were taken from me. My parents and a beautiful fiancé. I was all alone in this world, except from Tommy Ring, the police chief. He helped me through it, resigned me and pointed me in the right direction. He thought I had gone crazy when I started to research ‘ghosts and ghouls’, the creatures that crawl around under the shadow of darkness. After 4 extensive years of training, I became a Paranormal Investigator and I believed that the paranormal was the only explanation for they’re death. I lost contact with everyone I knew, Tommy, and various other friends. I was now completely alone and lost in the dark. It took awhile to start getting business, it wasn’t exactly a day to day thing and most people thought I was crazy. I started getting jobs, some changed how I looked at the world, the monsters that lurk in your darkest dreams, were now things I fought in my daily job. I never stopped searching for they’re murderer, though, and I doubt I ever will. Then, out of the blue, Tommy phoned, asking me to investigate a grisly, unexplained murder.
And that was my first mistake. Picking up the phone…

Tommy: John? Is that you?
John: Yeah, it is! Long time no see, old friend, how have you been?
Tommy: It is you John! I’m doing fine thanks, I heard you took up that crazy paranormal crap that you were looking into, I guess it could be some help in this case I’m working on
John: Its not crap Tommy, you know that. Anyway, what about a job?
Tommy: Well, we’ve got a potential homicide, over in the woods; none of it adds up, John, all we’ve got is a body of a dog and a missing boy. There fingerprints everywhere but forensics are saying that there not human and can’t possibly exist. None of it makes sense.
John: What? The fingerprints aren’t human…
(Pause)
John: That really isn’t right, Tommy. I don’t like this; I promised I would never do anything for the force.
Tommy: Then do it for me, John.
John: But will the board agree? Aren’t you going to get in trouble for this?
Tommy: Shut Up! I can look after myself. Anyway, you are getting in there and then getting out. No one will know, that’s why I would prefer you to come now, at night, we’ve got a nice perimeter set up, and you’re the best at homicidal investigating.
John: I don’t know…
Tommy: Well, hurry up and decide! I can’t be on here forever!
(Pause)
John: I guess I’ll do it, but remember you owe me…
Tommy: Thank God for that! I better give you some more info, before you head on down here. Right, Parents say that the boy took his dog down here for a walk everyday, and no one has seen him since, later an old man found the dog’s body and reported it to us, so we’ve been down here ever since. Searching for the boy and any clues. We are suspecting that the killer is known by the family and followed the boy down the lane. But there are loads of things that just don’t add up, John. The village is nearby, only about a kilometre away. We tested it and when we shouted to a police officer, a kilometre away, he heard. Everybody screams, John. This boy didn’t…

I had already made my second mistake. Accepting the job.

“Everybody Screams, John. This boy didn’t”

Chapter One: Everybody Screams…

It was a grim night. The huge frail moon hung over the landscape, looking like it could fall and shatter the earth at any minute. It was also blowing a gale, the raindrops were swept aside by the sinister wind. I was sat in the back seat of a taxi, protected from rain and wind. I silently studied the case in my head, going to certain points over and over again. No witnesses. Nearest village a km away. Most of it didn’t make sense, why didn’t the boy scream? Why didn’t he run and struggle? There was only one explanation. What the boy saw scared him so much he couldn’t run, scream or struggle. He couldn’t escape the murderer that lingered over him. Poor boy.

Taxi Driver: (polish) You look troubled? Something annoy you?
John: It’s nothing. How much longer ‘till you we get there?
Taxi Driver: Not much longer, friend. I must warn you though, watch everyone around you, and trust no one.
John: What do you mean?
Taxi Driver: It is for someone else to tell you, it is not my business to tell you. For a higher being.
(He shuts the slip between the front and back)

I should have listened to him. The man was right.
Only trust the ones you love and the ones that help you. Any of the police officers could be the murderer… No. Not possible. Tommy would find out and he would be put away.

(The game begins; you step out a taxi and into a street. Straight ahead is the gate into the forest. The player must travel down the lane and to the police scene. This will trigger the next cut scene. About halfway through the walk, a scary image of a young boy pops up)

Tommy: You finally decide to arrive, John, it took you long enough.
John: Shut up, Tommy!
(They laugh)
Tommy: Long time, no see
(They shake hands; another image pops up, on a man dragging a boy’s corpse away, you stagger back in shock)
Tommy: Shit, are you okay?
Police Officer 1: Damn, who the hell did you recruit this time, sir? A mentally deranged retard?
John: Shit, I’m fine. (Looks at Police Officer 1) What did you say?
Police Officer 1: Sorry, sir.
Tommy: Right, (looks at John uncertainty) you sure your up to this?
John: Yeah, I’m fine.
Tommy: Here’s the dog’s body, I would put on this mask.
John: No, I’m fine thanks.

The dog’s body just lay there and stunk. It had too many entry wounds to count, the forensics officers saying 'too many' knife slashes to count. It looked as if the killer used his knife as a paintbrush and the dog as his portrait. If this is what he did to the dog, I didn’t really want to know what had happened to the poor, terrified boy.

Tommy: Right, that was the dog (he pulls of his mask) pretty sick sight, eh? It really doesn’t make sense, we recovered the knife and it has fingerprints but they don’t… follow the pattern of human ones. We’ve never seen anything like it.

He was right, neither had I and I doubt anyone ever has. This was strange to me, and I deal with the strange.
