Old hermit goblin character for videogame
This part is for a video game. The character is actually of goblin descent and is an old hermit living deep in a cave. This character will be having dialog with the main hero of the story. We are looking for an interesting 'not quite of this place' character voice, but nothing that sounds cartoony or comical (think Yoda or Gollum, although we don't want to mimic these in any way...they are just good examples of a 'humanesque' characters). The character is very old and frail, so a raspy, breathy, or otherwise bizarre delivery might be the ticket I would prefer a British actor although we don't necessarily want the voice to sound full on Brit.

Script Details

Below is a further description of the scene...

"Having fought his way through the Sea Caves beneath Goldstar, the Hero encounters the Hermit. This character was once a Shaman, but has been stripped of his title (and staff, but not robes) and banished from the City, after failing to retrieve the lost Orbs – despite being nearly destroyed by Lilith. Lilith’s ‘deathly-touch’ has cursed his body with a slow-necrosis which is evident on one of his arms, which is wizened and rotting away, with part of bone showing and one of his eyes, which has rotted shut
The Hermit Shaman now lives out the last of his days under the caves, in his shabby robes waiting to die."
Sample script provided for auditions:

Trigger: Hero enters caves. There are a few crude torches burning on the wall, creating puddles of light and dark.
A voice emanates from one of the dark corners.
“Come to finish me off, have you?”
One angry greenish semi-glowing eye appears in the darkness.
Close-up on the Hermit’s rotting hand as it grasps a torch.
The Hermit’s good eye comes into the light.
...as the above line is uttered, the torchlight illuminates his other, dead, eye.

2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Hermit shuffles forward holding the torch. His whole body can be seen now. Necrosis has set in on his arm and face, whilst his robes are shabby and torn. He holds up the torch so he can see the hero better.
“So... they sent you... ”
Hero’s face is illuminated.
“No one sent me... ”
“Yet here you are... But if you have not come to kill me... then perhaps you are searching for the Orbs?”
“Then in this, at least, we are similar.”
3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Flash-back scene to the Shaman’s tree-shrine cave. The Hermit Shaman in his full robes, with his big Shamanic staff, is standing in front of his brother Shaman, obviously being given the ‘retrieve the orbs’ task.
“I too was tasked with travelling to the bowels of this place, to retrieve what was stolen from us.”
4 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SOUND of the Shaman’s feet, running along, robes flapping, carrying his staff. Horrible noises coming from behind him, panting as he runs.
“But there are horrors down here, in the darkness. unimaginable horrors, brought forth by the necromancers’ Dark Queen. (Bitter) Lilith.”

5 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Image of the Hermit and Lilith squaring up in silhouette.
In a blinding flash of light, the Hermit is reduced to a curled up ball on the floor, his arm reaching out weakly. A fierce howl of pain is heard.
Image of the Hermit limping weakly along a darkened corridor- he is slumped against one wall, torch in his good hand. The other hand hangs limply by his side.
(Sadly)“I failed... and despite my escape, I became tainted by Lilith’s touch. Shame led me to this place, to rot for my failures.”
6 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back to the hermit and the Hero. The Hermit sighs and turns to the Hero.
“My mission was one of sacrifice- there will be no return for me. But you...”
The hermit reaches out to the Hero, tracing his blackened hand along the lines of the scar.
“...you might have a chance.
The Hermit the torch higher, more of the hero is illuminated.
“I expect you ... heal quickly?”
The Hero nods.
“Yes. That is to be expected. Do you know why?”
The Hero shakes his head- dismissive.
“You Greenleaf are too fond of stories. What can it matter now? The necromancers must be stopped and that is the end of it.”
7 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Hermit starts to walk towards a cave corner where there’s a small pile of rags (his bed), the remains of a dead fire and some fish bones.
(sighs)“You are as impatient as you are ignorant, Hero. You believe that the world owes you much- that you are the victim of some heinous crime at the hands of the Necromancers.”
