Project Main Details

No More Poop In The River
The little boy should be startled that the city would dump sewage into the river - we want the audience to be startled too!

This is a call to action, and we will be asking people to sign a petition after they watch the video. We feel that if people understood what was happening and why they would want to correct it. We're trying to make this so entertaining and fun that people who are not already interested in the environment will watch and forward to their friends, and we can get a groundswell of support for action - the city and residents need to plant a lot more trees and rain gardens.

Total recording time for both parts - 2 to 3 minutes

$200 for each voice actor for clean recordings; must include minor edits and re-reads of the full recording, if needed.

Child: Look at those guys fishing in the Cumberland River! Nashville is building cool new parks, an amphitheater and boat launch on the river.

Big Kid: But did you know that raw sewage is pumped into the river?

Child: What does “raw sewage” mean?

Big Kid: Uh… it’s poop.

Child:(Laughing) Poopy! Ewww. Why?

Big Kid: Before all the buildings and roads and parking lots, rainwater would seep into the ground or run into streams. Today, rainwater can’t seep in, so it runs off the pavement, picks up speed, and races to the water treatment plant. When you flush the toilet, that water goes to the treatment plant too. Almost 200 times last year, there was too much water for the treatment plant, so poop was dumped directly into the river. It happens often in the summer – just when people are swimming.

Child: Whoa. People swim in poopy water?

Big Kid: Yessiree. The Music City triathlon includes a swim in the river, and people waterski, paddleboard, canoe, kayak, and have Dragon Boat Races on the river. People fish and swim in Cheatham Lake too, which is fed by the river.

Child: Why don’t we stop dumping the poop?
