Script Details

Praise Hashem with the call of the Shofar; praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with tambourine and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and flute. Praise Him with resounding cymbals. Let every being that has a soul praise Hashem.
From the moment the Jewish people were born, song and music were a key element of expression in their service of their Creator.

King David played a harp. His poems to Hashem became the Psalms, the most familiar songs of the Torah, with the power to elicit physical and spiritual healing and salvation.

And when the prophets would seek Divine sight, they used music to bring the spirit of prophesy upon them.

“Why were the Levites selected to sing in the Temple?” asks the holy Zohar. “Because ‘Levi’ means ‘to cleave.’ The soul of he who heard their singing, at once cleaved to its Creator.” (Zohar 2:19a)

Sholosh Tenuos
After almost two millennia of exile, Rabbi Yisrael Baal Shem Tov restored music and song to their central place in the service of Hashem, establishing Niggun as one of the fundamental elements of the movement he founded.
His successor, the Maggid of Mezritch, would hold a regular session of Niggunim with his disciples.

One of his closest disciples, Rabbi Schneur Zalman, the Alter Rebbe, would apply the power of Niggun he learned from his master, to expand and deepen the intellectual capacities of his own students.

As its name implies, Sholosh Tenuos, “The Niggun of Three Movement,” is made up of three parts. The first movement was composed by the Baal Shem Tov himself; the second was added by his successor, the Maggid; and the crescendo is by Rabbi Schneur Zalman.
