Script Details

Please read a portion from the script below for auditions.
Mobile phones, cars, drugs, homes, entire business. All of these and more are being simulated everyday.

And why not? Simulation offers so many advantages over the real world. It takes a fraction of the cost to build a virtual model as compared to a real prototype. Failure in a simulation is nothing more than a simple do-over.

Colleges were slow to adapt at first but have been quickly catching up. Business schools, engineering programs, even the very creative work of design students. Education at all levels is being transformed by a mindset to simulate first and build later, or, maybe, not even build at all.

Engineering schools have particularly been making a trade-off, from foundational courses in material science and circuit design to training in building the right virtual model. And business schools are driving into students' heads that simulations are one of the most cost-effective ways to trim costs. The hottest IPO so far of 2016—Emergenta—ran as a simulation for 3 months before ever hiring their first real engineer.

But simulations aren’t just replicating the physical world in virtual form. They’re going beyond, not bound by our limitations.

The most advanced simulations are their own Darwinian microcosms, using evolutionary techniques to pit ideas against each other. You know those new augmented-reality glasses your kids are wearing, with the odd shape? Well that odd shape houses the perfect antenna design, a design that ‘won’ a survival of the fittest content inside a simulation.

Simulations even incorporate instant feedback from millions of people already using existing products. So every time you use your mobile phone or drive your car, you’re probably feeding data into a simulation to improve next year’s model.

With so many people learning the tools of simulation, and so many businesses being transformed by the power of models, we might end up living in a world constantly confusing the real and the virtual.
