See, what I am is a private eye. A detective. A sleuth. A gumshoe. A shamus. Call me what you want, just don’t call me late for snack time… The important part is what I do. And what do I do? I solve mysteries. Lose your favorite train engine? Look me up. Something fishy about your new bedtime? Put me on the job. There’s no case too bigor too small that I can’t crack – as long as I can get there on training wheels. All I ask in return is a fair shot and the freedom to do whatever it is I need to do to get the job done. And maybe a fruit roll-up or some gummy worms, too. A kid can dream, can’t he?
But enough about me. I’m here to tell you about a recent case I had – a mystery I had to solve. This one was particularly close to me. Almost too close. See, usually I’m busy solving cases for other folks who need my help in a sticky situation. But on this day, it was me who was in the jam. And it was as about as tough as a piece of string cheese lost in the back seat of a station wagon… I remember it like it was yesterday—maybe it was.
