My dearest Daddy & Mother,

Sunday A.M.-Dec. 7th I heard some planes real low - one sounded like it might crash on the hospital. I heard a terrible noise. I said, “A plane crashed”, and ran out on the screened porch overlooking Pearl Harbor.

Then the music really started! What I saw was a lot of black smoke and planes so low they looked as if they might be landing in the Harbor.

The wounded started coming in 10 minutes after the 1st attack.
Then comes the second attack. We all fell face down on the wounded and heard the bombers directly over us.

We had no helmets nor gas masks - one of the soldiers saw me and we shared helmets together. In the meantime the bombs were dropping all around us…

V/O: You know, I always loved activity and excitement. For once, I had ‘enough’.

Your loving daughter, Monica
