Project Main Details
The Genetic Science Learning Center is a non-profit outreach education program. Our mission is to help people understand how genetics affects their lives and society.
We need a voiceover for two online multimedia flash tutorials to teach website visitors (a) what molecular genealogy is and (b) how to use an online molecular genealogy database to search for individuals with common ancestors.
Visitors to the website are primarily the adult public however the tutorial on the basics of molecular genealogy will also be used in high school classrooms so needs to be appealing and engaging to young adults.
Approximate time reading tutorial 1 script: 10 minutes
Approximate time reading tutorial 2 script: 20 minutes
No post-production is required.
Thank you for your interest in our project and we look forward to hearing from you! Sep 12, 2007 18:07:32 Pacific Time (US & Canada) Sep 19, 2007 19:00:00 Pacific Time (US & Canada) Yes (click here to learn more about

Script Details
For the audition we would like to hear samples from excerpts of each script as follows:
TUTORIAL 1
-------
If you were to look inside the nucleus of one of your
cells as it was getting ready to divide, you would see
that it contains 46 packages of DNA.
These DNA packages are called chromosomes.
44 of them are autosomes. The other two
determine whether you are male or female.
Autosomes come in matched pairs. For each pair of
autosomes, one came from your mother, and the
other came from your father.
Before your parents passed their autosomes down
to you, each pair of their autosomes was randomly
jumbled through a process called recombination.
-------
Because mitochondrial DNA is passed through the
maternal line, from mother to child, it contains
information about a small number of a person's
ancestors. However, since it passes from generation
to generation with very little change, mitochondrial
DNA is a rich source of information for deep
ancestry, going back hundreds or thousands of
years.
TUTORIAL 2
-------
Clicking on Marker Details opens a page describing the detailed technical information on the molecular nature of each Y-chromosome marker. Use the menu at the top of the page to choose a particular marker to view. This information can be helpful if you are interested in how common a particular allele is in the database or are seeking more specific molecular data about each marker sequence. This page is also available from the Y-Chromosome search results page.
------
Begin by selecting your lab standard from the drop down list. The input fields for your markers and their corresponding value conversions will change depending on the lab standard you select.
If you would like to narrow your search by surname click the "Search By Surname" box and enter the surname in the box. You may also choose to search for the exact or approximate spelling for this parameter. Audition script:
