Project Main Details
Prefer voice talent with quality home-recording setup. There is a wide range of books in this project, and there is a lot of flexibility as far as number of books, grade level, and hours per week. We will work with different schedules. Recording may begin as soon as the week of June 18th, and could last for several months depending on availabilty. Prefer to receive UNEDITED mp3 files. Expected delivery via FTP.
This script includes examples of fiction and non-fiction for two different grade levels, (grade 3, and 5-8). Please read "Fiction grade 3" and so on before each sample. There are 4 samples total.
The publisher would like a narrator with a clear, natural sounding voice. The younger grade levels should sound like a parent reading to a child. There can be slight variations for each character voice, but no cartoony or distracting voices. The higher grade levels should be a more mature narrator voice--not stilted or trying to sound like you are reading "down" to the listener. The student reading these books should be able to relate to the narrator.

Dad opened the box of fish bait.
"Which one of these will the fish want to eat today?"
"What do you thing, Liam? Do you want worms, fish guts, or shrimp heads?"
"Fish guts, thanks Dad," I said as I set up my fishing rod. Dad passed me a little box of bait.

Solar cars look very different from most cars. They do
not use gasoline as fuel. They use energy from the sun
to make them work. They never have to stop for gas!
These solar cars are racing cars. They race against other
solar cars. They travel long distances and go very fast.
Solar means “of or from the sun.”

Old, Tired Dog
Chris gave a hearty push and
arrived at the top of the slope first.
Then he had to wait for his dog.
He restlessly rolled his skateboard
forward and back again. Even at this
distance, he could hear Ginger’s
harsh breathing from below.
Ian’s skateboard rumbled on the
rough surface as he came to a stop
beside Chris. He, too, stood watching
as Ginger plodded upward.
“That dog needs a wheelchair,”
Ian said. “She is the world’s one and
only canine tortoise.”
Chris ignored his cousin’s taunt.
As the stiff old beagle hobbled up
the path toward him, he realized with
a sudden, sharp insight exactly what
Non-fiction grade 5-8
Air Traffic Control
Every day thousands of aircraft fly from
airport to airport. They carry millions of
passengers to destinations around the world.
With the help of air traffic controllers, these
planes fly at the same time without crashing
into each other.
Air traffic controllers act as pilots’ eyes
and ears. They talk to pilots over the radio,
telling them at what speed and height to
fly in order to travel safely. They make sure
planes keep a safe distance from each other.
