SOUNDS CONVERSATION

NOTE: Lighting near this structure will evoke the look of the Hershey Chocolate Factory exterior on a June day in 1913

LOOPING AMBIENCE: Around this structure we will hear a low-level ambient looping sound track that evokes the year 1913 on Chocolate Avenue in Hershey adjacent to the Hershey Chocolate Factory. We may hear a mix of horse drawn wagons and automobiles . We will hear foot traffic, birds in trees, the sound of an electric streetcar

EXTERIOR PORT SOUNDS: On a timed basis, we will hear sounds of working going on outside the Hershey Chocolate Factory. We may hear a trolley car arriving with a delivery of milk in large cans – fresh from local dairies. We may hear a freight engine in the background , slowing hauling cars into the sidetrack for delivery of cocoa beans and sugar at the Factory.

INTERIOR PORT SOUNDS: We will hear the hum of a 24-hour operation at the Hershey Chocolate Factory – circa 1913. We hear the hum of industrial boilers and dynamos making electricity for the chocolate factory. Sounds also include cocoa beans being cleaned, roasted and sent via conveyer to hullers. We may hear grinding and milling for cocoa liquor. We may hear conch machines in operation. We may hear the noisy “knock out” department in operation. In short a potpourri of Hershey Chocolate Factory sounds .

INTERIOR CONVERSATION: Over the Factory sounds, we hear the conversation between M.S. Hershey and some visiting businessmen. BUSINESS MAN #1 : Milton, we certainly do appreciate your taking time with us to tour through your amazing Hershey Chocolate Factory AND you wonderful model town.

MILTON HERSHEY: My pleasure gentlemen. I’d like every forward- thinking business man in America to see what can be done when you follow- through on your dream.

BUSINESSMAN #2 : And that dream was?

MILTON HERSHEY: My dream of manufacturing the highest quality chocolate in a way that makes it affordable for everyone. And also building a community where people can be happy…both at work and at home.

BUSINESSMAN I: After ten years here in Derry Church, you’ve certainly achieved that, Milton.

M.S. HERSHEY: Yes, but there’s so much more to come, gentlemen. Just wait and see.
