THIS is Martin. A businessman from Maryland. Martin is a meeting planner who brings people together for a living.

THIS is Martin’s Mind…always on the lookout for a BUSINESS-FRIENDLY city to host his annual convention. Martin had never considered Milwaukee as a possibility…
because he had never been here. Until one day, when the VISIT MILWAUKEE sales team invited Martin to MILWAUKEE for a VISIT.

Here...he was pleasantly surprised by the many places he experienced…Martin’s mind was quite pleased to discover a city rich with history, culture and A TON of character. Most of all, the people of Milwaukee were WARM AND WELCOMING. Martin could have chosen any destination for his convention, but his visit here made his city selection, well...a no-brainer.

And THAT’S where our story begins…with Martin and his decision to bring his meeting to Milwaukee. When convention week arrived, so did Martin—on time and VERY EXCITED. But he didn’t come alone. He brought with him a credit card...a big check book...and plenty of cash. From the airport, Martin took a taxi downtown—on his way stopping at a convenience store to buy some aftershave, tooth floss and, a six pack of ice cold beer.

Arriving at his hotel, Martin paid and, of course, tipped the cabbie. After checking in and slipping the Bellman a ten spot. Martin cranked up the air conditioning... Then called a local restaurant to make a reservation for 22 of his co-workers. After dinner, Martin returned to his room…flossed his teeth, called his family, took a long hot shower… and FINALLY, crawled into bed under his clean, fresh sheets.

Bright and early the next morning, Martin met with the Visit Milwaukee team along with all his local vendors. Here, all the arrangements and requirements are reviewed and readied for Martin’s convention…
which included…
1200 hotel rooms
1 general session
1 exhibit hall
24 breakout sessions daily
2 banquets
2 board of directors meetings
4 committee meetings
4 lunch functions
4 breakfasts
22 coffee stations
And, of course, one super cool convention center.

Over the next three days, Martin’s convention hit Milwaukee hard. But not without a hitch...On Tuesday, Martin dropped Palermo’s pizza sauce on his best suit. The local Dry Cleaner came to his rescue.
On Wednesday, a big business report had to be quickly reprinted due to a spelling error. On Thursday, two-hundred engraved awards for his company’s best salesman were delivered.
All week, Martin and his business buddies visited the bars and boutiques. They went to restaurants and retail shops. One night, Martin even took his Board of Directors on a boat ride. In his free time, Martin managed to take in a ball game...stroll along the River Walk. Cash in at the Casino, attend a performance and, of course, knock back a few on a brewery tour. All this from just one visitor and his business-minded mind.

That week, MILWAUKEE’s BEST left quite an impression on MARTIN….And MARTIN on MILWAUKEE.

But our story doesn’t end there…You see, Martin brought with him over 2000 attendees to the Greater Milwaukee area. Each brought with THEM a credit card, a check book and plenty of cold hard cash!

Every year tourism and conventions bring approximately $2.55 billion to our region. That’s Billion with a “B”
$836 million in transportation income
$556 million in food and beverage receipts
$293 million in recreational activities
$443 million in retail sales
$425 million in lodging revenue

Tourism to Milwaukee also generates approximately $320 million every year in additional tax revenue. This money directly creates over 48,000 full-time jobs for regional workers in the tourism industry.
And indirectly contributes to thousands more. And that’s where our story ends...All across the country, with our hero Martin and his business associates, Who all returned home safely to tell their friends about their wonderful visit to Milwaukee.
