The Battles of the American Revolution...
Tensions had been mounting for years … differences over trade, taxation, representation ... and it all came to a head on 19 April 1775 north of Boston … when British troops fired without orders on dispersing locals on Lexington Green … and then confronted a disciplined exchange of fire on Concord bridge … matching local militia against the armed deadly might of Great Britain.
A small rebellion would soon grow into a full-scale war … a war with battles that flared fitfully for eight long years up and down the eastern seaboard of the North American continent.
On the evening of 18 April, 700 British soldiers left their barracks in Boston…marching west toward Lexington and Concord.
...There was no going back.
As hostilities spread, on 14 June 1775, the Congress by resolution finally established a Continental Army … giving birth to what would become the first truly American Army.
The next day, on 15 June, George Washington was appointed to take formal command of the forces gathering at Boston and in New York.
