Small non-profit budget, looking to get the whole she-bang for $100. Looking for a pretty straight forward read, not sales-ish or overly enthusiastic. More looking for serious and perhaps a little dramatic. Also, we don't want radio-commercial pace on the read, but more TV documentary feel. Thanks for the demos!!! This dark past forms the framework for the leadership of President Yoweri Museveni who, since 1986, has sought to bring greater stability and economic growth to Uganda. Even so, internal struggle has continued, particularly in Northern Uganda, where rebel leader Joseph Kony has been committing unspeakable atrocities, particularly against children. Through forced recruitment of young children to serve in his rebel movement, which he has named The Lord’s Resistance Army or the “LRA,” Kony has continued to destabilize northern Uganda for the past two decades.
Recently, however, hope has returned. Peace negotiations with the rebels have produced new stability for this war-torn region. An independent reporter for the BBC named Sam Farmer, is the only westerner to interview Kony and live to tell about it:
With the cease fire and an apparent end to the violence now in sight, there is at long last an opportunity for restoration of the nation of Uganda. At this critical juncture in history, Restore International is stepping in to assist with the rebuilding effort. In this nation, where the average age of the population is 15, the lowest average age of any nation in the world and where upwards of eighty per cent of the population is age 22 or younger, Restore International’s emphasis on returning justice for children finds both a stark and a welcome reception.
People of Uganda are rightly suspicious of unkept promises and a quick fix. We must demonstrate our commitment as we build towards long term solutions. According, Restore International has embarked on several projects to bring immediate relief. These include projects such as…
In the end, the solution is to take the overwhelming majority of young people through the process of basic education and the establishment of morals based on the principals of Jesus. Strategies are now under way and the process of restoration has already begun.
Pronunciation:
Idi Amin = “EE-dee aw-MEEN”
Milton Obote = Milton “uh-BOE-dee”
Yoweri Museveni = “yo-WARE-ee moo-SEV-e-NEE”
The borders created by England to establish Uganda as a Colony assembled together a wide-range of ethnic people who were different in their culture and political systems. These deeply-rooted differences prevented the establishment of a working political community after Uganda’s independence was achieved in 1962. Adding fuel to this crisis, the dictatorial regime of Idi Amin during the1970’s was responsible for the deaths of some 300,000 of Amin’s opponents. Continued guerrilla war and human rights abuses under his successor, Milton Obote during the early 1980’s claimed at least another 100,000 lives.
