The deal:
NON UNION
Episodic Fee (per 11 minute episode): $700
This fee will cover up to 3 distinct character voices
This fee will also cover pick ups for previously recorded episodes as needed
We will record twice a month IN MIDTOWN MANHATTAN. At each recording session we will record two 11 minute episodes, plus pick ups. There is no guarantee of number of episodes. THE FIRST RECORD IS JAN. 8TH 2007.
We are looking for experienced NON UNION actors for both recurring and incidental roles. The roles being cast immediately are:
SHEEP 7-9 year old voice:Sheep is a bashful actress. She loves role playing, pretending to be new characters, but as SheepŠshe's shy and self-effacing. She breaks out of her shell by taking on roles like Detective Sheep, a Princess Sheep, Super
Sheep, Ballerina Sheep etc. She pops in and out of character, tempering her ³play acting² with reality. She is the girly girl of the group. When Sheep is Sheep, she is often the caring and rationale character in our show's world.
MONSTER 7-9 year old voice:Monster is a lonely, often misunderstood creature who lives in the woods of Word World. His seeming scary appearance often leads the others to run from him, but he¹s (she's) really just a great big softie who wants to be one of the gang. We are looking for small high pitched voice for monster that is against his (her) appearance or look. EXT. OUTSIDE SHEEP'S HOUSE - DAY
OPEN ON a blustery day. Trees sway; leaves blow. PAN WITH THE BLOWING LEAVES to reveal SHEEP, setting up a make-shift magician’s table.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
It was a wildly windy day in Word World, and Sheep was pretending to be...
Sheep ZIPS O.S., then ZIPS back wearing a flowing cape and twirling a magic wand. She’s missing a hat, however.
SHEEP (TO CAMERA)
Magician Sheep!
NARRATOR
Nice costume, Sheep.
SHEEP (CONT’D)
(as Sheep)
Why, thank you.
(as Magician Sheep)
And now, for my first magic trick, I will pull a rabbit out of my hat!
NARRATOR (V.O.)
Uh, Sheep? Aren’t you forgetting something?
SHEEP
(looks around) No, I don’t think so.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
Well, how are you going to pull a rabbit out of your hat when you don’t have a hat!
Sheep looks up, touching her hatless head, and REACTS.
SHEEP
Oops! (laughs) No problem! I’ll just make one!
Sheep rolls up her sleeves and waves her arms dramatically, building the anticipation for her trick. She finally extends her cape, which is LINED WITH POCKETS FULL OF LETTERS. She pulls out the letters H, A, and T as she says:
SHEEP
All I need are the letters H-A-T!
She puts them together as she sounds them out.
SHEEP (CONT’D)
(sounding)
/H/ /A/ /T/...
ON LETTERS - They morph into a MAGICIAN’S TOP HAT.
KIDS (V.O.)
Hat!
SHEEP
That’s right! Hat! And it’s just the kind of hat magicians wear! Or so I've heard.
Sheep drops the hat on the table. She readies her wand.
SHEEP (CONT’D)
Now to pull that rabbit out of my hat!
She waves the wand and gives the hat three little taps.
SHEEP (CONT’D)
Doobily-doo, doobily-dope, out comes a rabbit, I doobily-hope!
Sheep reaches impossibly deep into the hat (her entire arm DISAPPEARING) and pulls out... DOG!
DOG
Dog poses dramatically and hams it up for the camera.
SHEEP (CONT’D)
You’re not a rabbit! (Beat) But it’s nice to see you anyway, Dog.
DOG
Dog gives her a long sloppy LICK.
DOG
Sheep blushes.
SHEEP
(giggles)
Dog trots off. Sheep turns back to her hat...
NARRATOR (V.O.)
But just then, a big gust of wind blew Sheep’s hat up, up and away!
A sudden GUST OF WIND blows the hat up and out of sight! Alarmed, Sheep zips off after it!
SHEEP
Oh no, my hat! Come baaaaaack!
----------------------------------------------------------
They keep pulling when suddenly-
SHEEP (O.S.)
Um, I don’t mean to interrupt, but actually, it’s my hat, you see.
Pig and Duck REACT. CUT WIDE to reveal SHEEP. She smiles sheepishly at them.
SHEEP
Here, I'll show you - if you don't mind.
She collects the letters from the confused looking duo, then smushes them together.
SHEEP
(sounding)
/H/ /A/ /T/...
ON THE LETTERS - They morph into the MAGICIAN’S TOP HAT.
KIDS (V.O.)
Hat!
SHEEP
Yesiree! Hat! See? It's my magician’s hat; it's part of my magic act!
DUCK
Magic?! Now hold on one minute, or maybe even two!
He paces, putting things together.
DUCK
If it was a chef's hat for Pig and a silly hat for me then -- then Sheep must be right!
(gasps!)
It’s a MAGIC hat!
Pig and Duck turn and look at the hat. It GLISTENS!
PIG/DUCK
Whoa.
SHEEP
Ummm, you can use this hat to do magic tricks, but it's not a magic hat. It's just a regular old hat I put together out of the letters H, A and T!
Sheep tosses it up - but Duck catches it on its way down.
DUCK
But Sheep, when you put the letters together it makes any kind of hat you want! That sounds like magic to me!
SHEEP
Yes, but if I may, it's not the hat that's magic - it's the word HAT!
She smiles, taking back the hat. Duck and Pig look confused.
SHEEP
That's the amazing, magical thing about words! They can mean different things to different people. Like the word 'Hat'--
(to Pig)
-- to you it’s a chef's hat--
(to Duck)
-- and to you, Duck, it’s... well, what exactly is your hat, Duck?
DUCK
It’s sort of a, kind of a, it’s... it’s probably easier just to show you.
SHEEP
What a great idea! In fact, why don’t you all show me your special hats? I have plenty of letters right here to build them.
She dramatically opens her cape, revealing all the letters.
PIG
Let’s do it! Duck, it looks like it’s time to...
SFX: BUILD A WORD SONG COMES UP.
SHEEP/PIG/DUCK
BUILD A WORD!
Sheep pulls two sets of the letters H-A-T out of her hat, tossing them each to Pig and Duck. They put their respective letters in to their correct positions.
SHEEP/PIG/DUCK
It's time to build a word - let's build it, let's build it now!
PAN ACROSS ONE SET OF LETTERS.
PIG (V.O.)
/H/ /A/ /T/
ON LETTERS - They morph into a chef’s hat.
WIDEN ON SECOND SET OF LETTERS - They morph into a propeller beanie.
KIDS (V.O.)
Hat!
ON PIG AND DUCK AND THEIR HATS.
SHEEP/PIG/DUCK
Yeah, we just built a word! We built it!
DUCK
Yahoo! We built a hat!
PIG
Two very different hats!
DUCK
Out of the very same word!
SHEEP
That’s the magic of words, I do believe!
MONSTER SIDES: (READ ONLY LINES FOR MONSTER FOR AUDITION:
Dog leaps into the bush and through the other side. He pops out on the other side, momentarily startling Monster.
MONSTER
Oh! Hello. You scared me for a minute there.
Dog cocks his head quizzically. Monster holds out the N.
MONSTER (CONT’D)
I think you might be looking for this letter N, too.
Dog smiles.
EXT. THE CAMPSITE – MOMENTS LATER
Dog comes running back with the letters T, E, N and drops it on the ground for Pig and Frog.
PIG
Dog, you did it! You found the letters for our tent.
FROG
(thinking out loud)
Let’s see now... I think I remember how we did this before.
Frog starts to assemble the letters.
FROG (CONT’D)
/T/e/n/t/. T, e, n...Hmm. Something’s missing.
The three step back to examine Frog’s handiwork. Pig and Dog look on quizzically.
FROG (CONT’D)
Let’s try sounding it out again. We have a /T/ /E/ /N/, but we want a /t/e/n/t/.
PIG
So what’s missing?
MONSTER (O.S.)
/T/ /T/ T/!!!
Pig looks around.
PIG
Frog? Expert of forest sounds? Identify that sound, please.
MONSTER (O.S.)
/T/ /T/ T/!!!!!!
Frog leaps into Pig’s arms.
FROG
Don’t look at me...I’ve never heard anything like that before!
Dog looks at them both, tongue hanging out, tail wagging merrily. He gives them a broad “okay sign.”
FROG (CONT’D)
It’s okay?
In response, Dog dashes off into the darkness... and coaxes the huge, shy MONSTER out from behind his bush.
FROG & PIG
(shrieking in terror)
MONNNSTERRRR!!!
Pig jumps in Frog’s arms. Their shrieks scare Monster.
MONSTER
Aaaaaahhhhh!
Monster tries to hide behind Dog, holding out the missing letter T in his enormous hairy hand.
MONSTER (CONT’D)
/T/! You’re missing the letter T.
Frog drops Pig.
FROG
Wait! What did he just say?
By way of introduction, Dog circles around Monster, wagging his tail and licking Monster.
MONSTER
(giggles)
I said, the letter you’re missing is T. /T/e/n/t/. Tent.
Pig dusts himself off.
PIG
Hey! He’s a friendly monster.
Frog takes the T from Monster.
FROG
And smart, too. He knew what letter we were missing from our tent.
MONSTER
And I know something else, too.
PIG/FROG
What?
MONSTER
I know it’s time to...
SFX: BUILD A WORD SONG COMES UP.
FROG/PIG/DOG/MONSTER
BUILD A WORD!
FROG/PIG
It’s time to build a word - let’s build it, let’s build it now!
Frog, Pig, and Dog put the letters together.
MONSTER
T...E...N...T
ON LETTERS - They morph into a TENT.
KIDS V.O.
TENT!
ALL
Yeah, we just built a word! We built it! We built it!
SONG ENDS.
FROG
Perfect! Thank you so much, Monster!
Monster giggles, clapping his hands with glee.
MONSTER
Happy to help!
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. THE CAMPFIRE – LATER THAT NIGHT
Once again the group is gathered around the campfire, toasting marshmallows and enthralled by Pig’s story...
PIG
...So the friendly Monster roamed the woods looking for campfires...Hey, Monster, why do you look for campfires anyway?
Monster smiles and holds up the marshmallow on the end of his stick.
MONSTER
For the toasted marshmallows!
PIG/FROG/DOG/NARRATOR
(laugh)
Monster pets Dog, who is as happy as can be.
SHARK SIDES (READ ONLY LINES FOR SHARK):PAN DOWN: Under the water, we see a form swimming through the reeds. In the haze of the water, we can’t see what it is, only its letters as we PAN BY: S-H-A-R-K. A few FISH swim near.
NARRATOR
Today we begin our story under the waters of Word World, with an S, H, A, R, K...
The reeds clear. We see the SHARK in full form.
KIDS (V.O.)
Shark!
The FISH also see SHARK in full form. He smiles at them.
SHARK
(super friendly)
Hi!
FISH
Sh-sh-shark!
The fish swim away. Shark breaks the surface of the water and looks around sadly.
SHARK
Why does that always happen? I say “Hi,” and everyone swims away.
NARRATOR
Well, Shark, how can I say this? Lots of Word Friends think you’re kind of...scary.
SHARK
Who, me? That’s silly. I’m just looking for a friend...
DUCK (O.S.)
(calling out)
Anybody want to hear a joke?
Shark looks over in the direction of Duck’s voice. Duck is waddling along the beach, skipping stones.
NARRATOR
Well, Shark, this just might be your lucky day...
Shark reaches the shore, leaps out of the water and beaches himself beside Duck.
SHARK
I do!
Duck is momentarily startled. He falls backwards.
DUCK
Quack!
SHARK
I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.
Duck dusts himself off, sizing up Shark.
DUCK
I’m okay, I’m okay. Say, you’re a mighty big fish. Who are you?
SHARK
(laughs) Well, I’m--
DUCK
Wait, wait, don’t tell me. Lemme guess. I know my letters pretty well, you know. I can figure out what you are.
SHARK
Uh...Okay...
Duck circles Shark, calling out his letters:
DUCK
S...h...a...r...k... Hmm...
(attempt sounding out)
S-hark. Oh! You’re a s-hark. (beat) What’s a s-hark?
SHARK
Well, you see, actually, It’s pronounced--
DUCK
Well, whatever you are, glad to meet you, s-hark. Now you want to hear a joke?
SHARK
Um, sure!
DUCK
How do ducks learn to fly?
SHARK
I don’t know. How?
DUCK
We just wing it! Get it?
Duck falls on the ground, cracking up. Shark reacts to Duck and laughs. He slaps his tail in the surf -
SHARK
(laughs) That’s funny!
Duck REACTS - Someone actually thinks he’s funny!
DUCK
It is???
Duck pats Shark on the back.
DUCK (CONT’D)
I like you, S-hark. Wanna be my friend?
Shark REACTS - Someone actually wants to be his friend! He jumps up to a standing positioning, his weight on his tail.
SHARK
Do I ever!
DUCK
You’ve gotta meet my friend, Frog! He’d love you! Hey! You wanna come back to my pond and play with me?
SHARK
Play!? I’d love to play!
Duck begins to comically waddle O.S. Shark hops after him and they hold hands as they walk.
NARRATOR
Of course, Duck didn’t know that S-hark was really a Shark, so he wasn’t afraid of him. Duck was just happy to be his friend.
Duck sees Shark’s attempt at walking and shakes his head.
DUCK
You sure walk funny.
Duck continues walking, looking pretty funny himself.
INT. FROG’S LOG - MOMENTS LATER
Duck bangs open Frog's front door.
DUCK
Frog! Are you home?
Duck walks in, Shark hopping on his back tail to keep up behind him. But the log is empty.
DUCK (CONT’D)
Fro-og? (beat) Hmm... I guess he’s not home. Well, c’mon S-hark, let’s go find him.
SHARK
Um, would you mind if I just stayed here while you look for him? All this hopping around has made my tail sore.
Shark flops himself in Frog’s comfy chair and rubs his tail.
DUCK
Sure, s-hark! You just wait here and I’ll be back with Frog. Make yourself comfy!
Shark wiggles deeper into the chair.
SHARK
Oh, I will! See you soon. Thanks!
--------------------------------------------------------------
Shark wakes up and looks right at Duck.
SHARK (CONT’D)
(yawns) My, that nap was just what my sore tail needed. Oh, hi Duck.
DUCK
(surprised)
Quack!
Duck pushes Frog in front of him like a shield.
SHARK
And this must be your friend Frog.
FROG
Frog pushes Sheep in front of him like a shield.
SHARK
And this must be your friend Sheep!
SHEEP
(panicked noises)
Sheep puts the fish bowl in front of her.
SHARK
And this must be your friend Fish!
Fish freaks out and tries to hide in her bowl.
SFX: FRANTIC SPLASHING.
Frog, Sheep and Fish run and hide in a corner, behind Frog’s big SHOE, leaving Duck once again exposed.
SHARK (CONT’D)
You certainly have a lot of friends, Duck. It must be because you’re so funny.
Shark turns to Duck, but Duck eyes him suspiciously.
DUCK
S-hark! You’re a shark!
SHARK
(nervously)
Uh, yes, that’s right.
DUCK
(hurt)
Why didn’t you tell me you were a shark?
Shark is embarrassed.
SHARK
I was afraid you wouldn’t want to be my friend if you knew I was a shark. No one wants to be friends with a shark.
Shark looks sad.
DUCK
(quack!) Well, why not?! I don’t care if you’re a shark, or a s-hark, or a purple-polka-dotted Monkey laying eggs on a bicycle!
Shark falls on the ground, laughing just as Duck did earlier.
SHARK
A purple-polka-dotted...Ha! You’re so funny, Duck...
We see Sheep, Frog and Fish look at each other, then soften when they see how much Shark likes Duck. Maybe he’s not so scary after all!
Shark his tail on the ground, laughing.
SHARK (CONT'D)
Ow!
Duck is concerned. So are the others.
DUCK
What’s the matter?
SHARK
My tail! It really hurts from all this walking!
DUCK
It does? Well, if we’re going to play together, then we have to do something about that tail of yours. SHEEP SIDES (READ ONLY SHEEP LINES FOR AUDITION):
