As you know, (client’s name) is a world leader of high-tech plastics, ranking No. 1 in the world in both Polyurethanes, and Polycarbonates. Our focus on innovation and growth, combined with your hard work within (CLIENT’S NAME), enabled us to achieve one of the most successful years in (clients name) history last year.
As leaders in our industry, we often find it necessary to implement new processes and technologies that allow us to achieve our goals and stay profitable and competitive. Collectively, they form our supply chain; a coordinated system of people, activities, information and resources involved in selling, producing and delivering products to our customers.
Successful organizations are typically those that have efficient supply chains. Processes in these companies are well-defined and integrated between different areas of the organization and technologies are in place to support those processes.
One of our efforts to improve the efficiency of the (client’s name) supply chain was with the implementation of SAP in 2004. However, it quickly shed light on those areas of where we did not have well-defined processes that worked well with the new system. Particularly hard hit were the areas of planning and scheduling, which is part of the Plan to Produce section of (clients name)’s supply chain, and vital to overall supply chain efficiency and effectiveness.
The post-SAP challenges that Planning & Scheduling faced were three-fold. First, information flowing to them from upstream in the process was inaccurate, which did not allow them to take advantage of data within the new system. Second, new processes that took advantage of the system’s capabilities were not mapped out in advance of the implementation. This resulted in the third challenge: not being able to take advantage of SAP’s robust Planning & Scheduling tools.
Through a tremendous amount of creativity and hard work, employees in the Planning, Scheduling and Production areas managed to quickly develop their own processes that allowed the plants to keep running and kept their customers satisfied. While these efforts were necessary and certainly commendable, the time has now come to further refine our processes to more fully integrate an end-to-end supply chain that will better enable us to leverage our efforts and information.
Next, you will hear from members of (CLIENT’S NAME) management and the Supply Chain Planning project team who are committed to the successful implementation of this project.
They will explain:
- why it is necessary to revise the Planning & Scheduling processes,
- some of the details around the project
- how it will help us maintain our competitive advantage within the industry
