Project Main Details
Length of Script: 225 words
We are looking for a teenage male voice to tell the story of a Korean War hero who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery. This is a short, action packed, fast-paced script that runs about 1 minute in length. This is a character driven read. It is not documentary style voice over.
This video is one of 15 profiles of recipients of the Medal of Honor, the highest recognition of bravery in the armed forces. The video is part of a museum exhibit that will be on display in Charleston, South Carolina. Characters: Male teenage golf caddie
Caddie: When you caddy at a golf club, you can meet some really amazing people, like Colonel Joe Rodriguez.
At first, I thought he was just this good-natured guy who loved to play golf.
Then, one day in May of ‘91 we had a guest speaker at school and guess who? Yeah, “Colonel Joe,” and, he wore his Medal of Honor!
That was the only time I heard him tell his story, and it was awesome!
See, forty years ago he was a Sergeant with the 7th Infantry Division in Central Korea. One day in May, his guys started up a hill towards a village when suddenly, they’re attacked by North Koreans dug in above ‘em.
So, Sergeant Rodriguez, grabs a sack of grenades, and he starts flyin’ up that hill, bullets zingin’ all around him! He doesn’t even think about it.
He chucks a grenade into the first foxhole, wham! And he hits an automatic weapon emplacement, bam!
He’s like a whirlwind, twistin’, turnin’. Finally, he knocks out the last emplacement -- a machine gun nest!
No lie! I looked it up after. Yeah, this easy-goin’ guy, stormin’ a hill, savin’ his buddies and, afterwards, actin’ like it’s no big deal!
How does a guy do that? Like I say, you can meet some amazing people when you caddy.^ Budget USD$150
