(news style read, medium pace)
If you are a fan of the upcoming 2009 Camaro, you will especially enjoy this concept commercial created by Jason Debler and Steve Whitaker of Camaro Z28.com. It's titled: "Bring on the Storm."
This entire video was rendered in 3D animation, and represents what Jason and Steve think a 2009 Camaro commercial may look like.
Chevy 2006 Camaro Convertible
(news style read)
The Camaro and Firebird's standing in muscle car history is significant, with their birth in the 1960's, and later popularity through the late-model versions with LS1 power. Of course, the last Camaro or Firebird produced was in 2002.
When Cheverolet introduced the 2009 Camaro Concept Coupe, the automotive world went crazy. Popular for it's muscular good looks, powerful V8 engine, and forward thinking rear-wheel drive design, the 2009 Camaro put Chevrolet's Performance division back on the map.
Everyone is waiting for the debut of the 2009 Camaro, and General Motors gave us a treat during the 2007 Detroit Auto Show when they rolled out the 2009 Camaro concept.
This is the first look at the production version of the Camaro Convertible, slated to go on sale around the middle of 2009. It will debut several months after the release of the Coupe version.
The powertrain will be the same as the coupe, a V8 rumored to exceed 400 hp in the Z28, with a V6 for the base car. Nothing too surprising there, as LSX power gets the call. The engine is will be at least SIX LITERS, and backed by a six speed transmission.
Chevrolet's designers did an especially good job of making the Camaro convertible look like such a natural version of the coupe. It was the little touches and changes that made the difference here, from the slope of the rear quarter panel to the slight adjustments to the rear spoiler.
And what a better color to put on the Convertible than the infamous Hugger Orange, this version in Pearl with two matching grey stripes, which were used on the Z28 model back in 1967.
Nice touches includes a new set of wheels specific to the Convertible - 21 inches in front, and 22 inches in the rear. Their design reminds one of the Rally wheels from yesteryear.
The interior of the concept Convertible seems to be quite a bit more conservative and real world than in the Concept Coupe. The stark white of the seats and aluminum trim striking with the Hugger Orrange paint.
We like the aluminum bits and pieces on the inside, especially the billet shifter and interior bezels.
The only thing we ding this LSX dream for is the same all-independent suspension that the production Camaro is slated to recieve. It's built on the Holden platform, but that's a good enough excuse for us. We're prefer a solid rear axle, but we'll take the Camaro just like this if we have to.
Rumor has it that GM Performance Parts will be offering a drop-in solid axle conversion when the car eventually releases. Sounds good to us.
Over all, Chevrolet did a top-notch job with this car. We can't wait to get one of our own.
Ford Interceptor
(news style read)
Ford Motor Company introduced the Ford Interceptor concept last week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
When we first saw this new Ford sedan, we said - is that a four door Mustang?
The Interceptor comes equipped with a manual six-speed gearbox mated to a Ford Racing FIVE liter V-8 Cammer engine that delivers 400 horsepower and runs on E-85 ethanol.
As a nod to performance purists, the ultimate muscle lies under the powered clamshell "shaker" hood, which caps a thoroughly detailed engine compartment.
The Interceptor concept features signature Ford design touches like the horizontal three-bar grille that is structurally integrated into the bumper.
Its low-back seats, finished in thick black leather, offer a modern touch to muscle car seats -- along with headrests that deploy from the roof.
The concept's interior is sleek, focusing the driver's attention on the speedometer and tachometer.
So, is it really based on the Mustang Chassis?
The answer is yes.
This concept vehicle coming hot off the heels of the 2007 Shelby Cobra makes no bones about it's American Muscle Heritage. It's chassis is based on the four wheel drive Mustang chassis, just like the Shelby and Mustang GT.
In fact, The Interceptor concept's V-8 Cammer engine is an upgraded variant of the 4.6-liter engine under the hood of the current production Mustang GT. The Cammer modular engine has powered Ford Racing's FR500C race car.
Ford Motor Company's J. (Jay) Mays tells us about the concept.
(delay)
The big question we all want to ask, of course - will Ford build it?
Hanlon & Zoop
(excited, racing-style read, high energy)
For the NMRA video of the week, we're bringing you back to the first NMRA event of 2006, the NMRA spring break ford nationals. Girls, sunshine and racing all combine into one of the best events of the season. Of course, a sticky track surface maintained by Bradenton Motorsports Park helped create a 9-1-1 wheelstanding situation.
In our first video, we had an in-car camera in Bob Hanlon's all motor Hot Street entry. With a stick shift transmission and a loose, aggressive suspension system, Hanlon went on the ride of his life. Let's follow along.
In our second video, NMRA Renegade Driver Zoop Zellonis [pronounced ZELL - O - NIS] did the hokey pokey with his supercharged Fox Body GT Mustang. Only a great driving job seperated Zoop from sure disaster.
Although he ended up in the wall, the car was okay and was repaired to race another day.
24 Hours of LeMons
(news type read)
The return of a Real Bad Idea is going to occur on July 7-8, 2007, when the 24 hours of LeMONS - yes we said LEMONS.. will be held at Altamont Motorsport Park in Tracy, CA.
This is a 24-hour endurance race for cars costing less than $500.
Yes, we said.. FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS.
This will be the second running of the 24 Hours of Lemons, held in muggy, broiling hot July. If you want to see a bunch of truly clapped out, destroyed, beaters tearing each other up on a half mile oval, this is the event for you.
In the 2006 event, a team from Road & Track took the win over 34 other entrants. You'll witness NASCAR drivers, Road Race Experts, Magazine Editors, and regular old nobody's all slamming into each other with roll cage equipped buckets of rust.
This endurance race is for cars purchased, fixed up, and track-prepped for a total of 500 bucks or less. Twelve hours into the race, the car voted People's Choice ...for best concept and preparaton... is called in and awarded a cash prize. Simultaneously, the car voted People's Curse ....for being driven by the biggest Morons..... is called in and destroyed. At the end of 24 hours, a gala awards ceremony plies the survivors with trophies, plaques, and four-figure purses paid with canvas bags full of nickels.
Of course, that's if your piece of junk actually finishes. Which most don't.
Check it out for yourself at www.24hoursoflemons.com
Complete rules, entry, and information is listed on their website. It even says, you may die.
Special thanks to TOM ZIER for the videos.
At powerTV we may even enter a car in partnership with Race Pages Magazine. You should to. After all, according to the 24 hours website..
