Script Notes: We are now headed along the Maxwell Main Road on our way to the fishing village of OISTINS ("Oye-s-tins"). In 1639 Oistins was the battle site between British Royalists and Roundhead supporters. The battle focused on gaining Barbados’ independence from Cromwell’s England and it was at this site that the first Barbados constitution came into being well before that of Americas. Oistins is now a prominent fishing community and market and on Friday and Saturday nights host to the popular Oistins Fish Fry, where vendors prepare a variety of local dishes and visitors can dine under the stars in a very casual and relaxed atmosphere.
