Welcome to United Dairymen of Arizona CIP/SILO Training. The following training presentation will demonstrate step by step how to conduct Silo Sanitation and Testing. During the course of this presentation you will partake in short exercises followed by a small assessment to ensure your understanding of Silo Sanitation and Testing.

First Check the CIP computer interface and verify the Silo is empty. Once at the silo start to slowly loosen the silo door wing nut. While loosening be sure to apply pressure to the door. This is done to stabilize the silo door in it’s current position, if there is excess cream in the Silo, then fully open door.

Before Disassembling the Silo, make sure you apply authorized UDA gloves. Verify gloves are free of holes and tears. Now take the bucket labeled “manual cleaning” and fill it ¾ full with water from the red hose. Then apply cleaning solution HC-10.

Now take the second bucket labeled “Sanitation ???” and fill bucket with the sanitation solution from the blue hose. Fill sanitation bucket ¾ full. This bucket is used to sanitize silo parts during disassembling. Once both buckets are filled, place on tray.

Return to the silo and start removing the silo door gasket. Take gasket over to the cleaning tray and remove red brush from the cleaning bucket. Start cleaning gasket, once there is no remaining cream residue, place in sanitation bucket.

One last piece must be removed from the Silo door before cleaning. Carefully remove the Septum from Silo door. Before cleaning check to see how many penetrations are marked on the septum. If there are four marks then discard septum and place new septum in sanitation bucket. If the septum is going to be re-used then clean septum with red brush a then place in sanitation bucket.

Now take the green brush from the cleaning bucket and start cleaning the silo door and alcove area. Inspect both the silo door and alcove for cream residue. If there is no cream residue present rinse the silo door and alcove using the red water hose.

Carefully step up to (????) and remove the screens from the (need name). After removing the screens carefully step down and place screens in sanitation bucket.

Locate the CIP door boot and carefully insert boot inside the silo opening, make sure boot is pulled forward and flush with inside of door opening.

Now take hose from Agitator and connect to the CIP jumper. Before connect the hose make sure there is a washer for the hose to prevent leakage.

Locate the CIP Supply Jumper area, (the CIP Supply Jumper location will vary depending on CIP location). Remove the flat gasket from the appropriate area. MAKE SURE you have located the proper silo number on the CIP supply jumper panel. If the supply jumper is re-routed to the wrong silo cream will be destroyed.

Unhooked supply jumper from previous area, and replace with the flat gasket. Now connect the supply jumper.

Before you attach the Air Eliminator you must remove the cap from (?????). BE VERY CAREFUL!!! Unscrew cap slowly and do not be directly over it. Due to built-up pressure (?????) caps can launch into the air with great force.
Once cap is remove Disassemble the Air Eliminator for an equipment check.

Check for proper 1 ½” gaskets and check ball. Both gasket and ball should be free of cracks, chips, and dents. The Air Eliminator will not be properly sealed if the gasket or ball is damaged. If no damage is found Re-assemble, if damage is found replace parts.

After the Air Eliminator is Re-assembled attach to (??????)

Take the elbow are from the sanitation bucket and carefully step onto (?????) and attach Elbow Arm to (??????). Verify the open end of the Elbow Arm is through the vented CIP Door

Before leaving the CIP area make sure all connections are installed and secure. These connections include;

CIP door boot
Agitator hose
CIP Supply Jumper
Air Eliminator
Elbow Arm
