The children of Honduras, like many Central and South American countries, are virtually fatherless. 65% of the country is under the age of 21. Honduras is ranked as one of the worst educational systems in the world. Most of the children will never make it past the 6th grade. For many, abuse, theft and kidnapping are a way of life. To gain acceptance and strength, they turn to the violence of local gangs and crime. With no hope for the future, poverty and death set in on yet another generation. However, a ray of hope exists.

For centuries, soccer has ruled and reigned as the world’s sport. Stadiums all across the globe are filled weekly as excited fans cheer their team on to victory. In Latin America, soccer dominates the culture. They eat, sleep and drink “football”, as they call it in Honduras. It’s more than a passion; it’s the heart and soul of the country. As soon as they can walk, children take to the streets to prove themselves to their peers. Soccer is all about status, respect, and possibly a ticket out of a life of poverty and despair.

Carlos Miranda, Mayor of Comayagua and Jim Faber have become very close friends over the years. Because of the Mayor’s passion for the people and love for Jesus, he has donated 10 acres of land to Eternity’s Call Ministries for the purpose of building a “World Class” Soccer Training Ministry Center. In the first stage of development, a water well has been drilled and plans are underway to break ground on the center.

Hand-selected students from the poorest neighborhoods and streets of Honduras, will be provided with the best in education, soccer training, leadership development, discipline and spiritual mentoring. The training center will consist of classrooms, dormitories, a cafeteria, soccer fields and a chapel. The cost to complete this project is estimated at $350,000 US dollars.

The goal is to use the vehicle of soccer to rescue these children from the streets and train them to become social and spiritual leaders for the future.
