A House Divided By Self
“It lies within ourselves, in our own actions to possess happiness; or by sloth and negligence to fall from happiness into ruin…”
Origin 1st. Century Christian Leader
The list of difficulties facing your family today may be long and varied, but each individual circunstance has at its root a single, primary cause. From minor misunderstandings to major conflicts, each hurtful incident in your family’s past can be traced back to one common source—you. Whether you are a parent struggling to maintain a semblance of control; or a teenager, trying to test the limits of your boundaries, the catalyst is you. Every action you initiate creates an equal and usually opposite re-action from the other members of the household. Therefore, the most effective and efficient way to begin revising your relatives is to first survey your self.
You look at things from your own singular point of view. Like everyone else on this planet, you perceive life’s ups and downs through the lens of your uniquely personal emotions and experience. It is the normal inclination of your human character to see things your way. Countless times a day, you subconsciously ask yourself, ”How will this situation affect me?”…”what’s in it for Number One?”…”How can I work this to my advantage?” Such selfish thinking may be normal and in this troubled world it may, at times, even been necessary; but it’s not natural. For something to be natural, it must be a part of an object’s original nature.
In the beginning back in Eden’s Garden, when things were as “natural” as you could get, man was different. His nature not only contrasts today’s versions of humanity, his qualities were also vastly original to all the other forms of earthly creation.
…And God said, ‘Let the waters bring forth swarms of living
creatures, and let birds fly above the earth, across the
firmament of the heavens….’(then) God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness… And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
(Genesis CHAPTER 1:VERSES 6,9,20,26, CHAPTER 2:VERSE7)
From the void of space God spoke, and from that nothingness Earth awoke. Stirred by a voice that the stars recognized, our sleepy world begins to rise. With His word trees began to sprout and life started wiggling in the sand. But then God stopped talking. Surveying all that His words had created, He rolled up his sleeves, knelt on the bank of earth’s freshly formed shore, and carefully carved out a figure resembling His own image. It was the shape of a man. The Creator did not speak humanity into existence, as He had all the other heavenly bodies of this universe-He physically made man.
This hands-on approach, obviously implies that God placed a special value on us. And by forming us in His image, He also placed invaluable qualities within us. The moment God’s divine breath entered man, he became superior to all other forms of earthly life; Not only was the first human’s body an intricate structure of divine manufacturing, this man of clay was capable of such feats as abstract thought, original concepts and the all-important attribute of free will.
Adam and later Eve, were both extraordinary creations, each were an original combination of flesh and spirit; creations that could actually have a relationship with God! Within those first humans, the Creator placed the mind and emotions of a soul, and the priceless gift of an eternal spirit. And God ingeniously housed this rare combination inside clay earth suits called, the body.
