I manage my funds by looking for momentum stocks and stocks that have a solid story. If a company cannot explain how it makes money in less than a minute, then I will not buy them. For instance, I refused to buy Enron when they were one of the hottest stocks. Enron’s top management couldn’t explain how they money in less than a minute and would end conversations with, “It’s complicated”.
I manage two funds – Large Cap Growth and Growth Opportunities. The largest difference is that Large Cap Growth is constrained to investing in companies with market capitalizations of at least 12 billion, whereas Growth Opportunities can invest in companies of any capitalization. While I have the ability to place up to 20% of both funds in non-US companies, I currently have less than 11% in foreign securities held in Large Cap Growth and less than 8% in Growth Opportunities.
Currently, Growth Opportunities has a heavy weighting in Mid Cap stocks. There is no restriction as to how much the funds overlap.
