Project Main Details
In 1967, Jim Winthers brought together a small group of Vietnam Veterans to support each other as they learn to cope with their disabilities. These veterans taught themselves and others how to ski. Winthers, a world war 2 veteran at the 10th mountain division and Director of the Soda Springs Ski School helped form our organization, Disabled Sports USA Far West. Much has changed in the more that nearly 40 years of serving the world of disabled sports, and DSUSA is at the forefront of the design and innovation.
Our winter programs are filled with excitement. DSUSA Far West trains and assists more than 500 skiers each year.
Skiing is fun, and it gives participants the feelings they can do other activities as well.
When the snow thaws, there are many other outdoor sports that people with disabilities and their families can participate in, and golf is one of the newest sports offered by Disabled Sports USA Far West.
The DSUSA golf program at Hagin Oaks in Sacramento helps hundreds of people every year gain mobility, improve motor skills and have a great time.
What do you get when you mix oars, rafts, people and more than a million gallons of water per hour? White Water Rafting.
Our professional guides will take you and your family down the American river. Call today to find out when our next trip is scheduled.
The cycling program offered by Disabled Sports USA Far West is an exciting activity for all ages and abilities.
Using the American River trail, participants and their families are given the opportunity to have fun together. After all, that’s what DSUSA is all about.
To ensure the safety of participants and staff, Disabled Sports USA Far West uses a private lake to conduct our water ski events.
At any level, whether monoski or sitski, our experience instructors and boat drivers are here to help. You should try this.
There are many places throughout California that can only be reached by hiking or 4 wheel drive vehicle. Disabled Sports USA Far West offers participants and their families an opportunity to see these pristine landscapes through their 4-wheel drive program.
If you are looking for fun, then this is it. Call today to learn about our next exciting 4-wheel drive adventure.
