Script Details
YesThis is the latest update on the progress of Hurricane Marta, a very dangerous Category 4 storm poised to strike the Mid-Atlantic states. Currently, she is positioned just off the coast of Maryland with maximum sustained winds of 135 mph. That’s down from the Category 5 strength she had a few days ago off the Carolinas, but it’s still extremely dangerous. As she has weakened, the wind field has continued to expand, with hurricane force winds extending more than 75 miles out from the eye. Marta is moving NNW at 10 mph. We’re predicting landfall in the late afternoon Tuesday somewhere near Dewey Beach, Delaware. Right now, the projected path takes Marta up the Delaware River between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. New Jersey residents should be particularly concerned because they will be on the strong eastern side of the storm. We’re expecting a storm surge of 8-10 feet along the Delaware Bay and severe wind damage to both coastal and inland structures. We’re even more concerned about the potential for catastrophic flooding as Marta is expected to drop at least 16” of rain on the area. Flash flooding is expected because the ground is already saturated from the recent thunderstorms. If you have not already taken precautions and gotten to higher ground, you should do so immediately.
