Importing video and audio into the timeline of Final Cut Pro is as easy as dragging and dropping. But Final Cut allows you to assign which tracks the media will be placed on when imported into a sequence.
You can specify target tracks for content being added to a sequence using the timelines target track controls located on the left side of the window.
The left side of the controls refer to the source material and the right side refers to the destination.
To target tracks in the timeline, click on the left side of the track you want to use.
The source tab will move to match the new destination you are targeting.
Now when you import footage, you can see how it will automatically be assigned to the pre-determined track.
