They told Darlene Brown that a segregated school was acceptable for her daughter to attend, reinforcing her second-class status, when a white school was just around the corner (Image: Brown V Board of Education). They told Amelia Earhart that a woman had no place piloting an airplane (Image: Footage of her crossing the Atlantic). And, when Nancy Landon Kassebaum became the first woman to be elected to the United States Senate…well, they had not even bothered to put in a women’s restroom.
They say a lot of things to Kansas women….can’t…shouldn’t…not you’re place. What they don’t tell us is that one in four women will face domestic violence in their lifetime. What they don’t tell us is that at some point in our lives, we will need our Courts to be there for us and our children…to protect us, to support us, to hear our cases. Every 15 minutes a child is born in our state, but right now politicians like Governor Sam Brownback are trying to dismantle the Kansas Court system. They want to replace the process for selecting judges, which has been in place for nearly 60 years and replace it with a political system that could jeopardize its fairness and impartiality. It’s politics at its worst.
They can say a lot of things to us, but they can’t ignore us. We are protectors. We are providers. We can make a dollar stretch, find the missing white sock before the game and scare away the dragon living under the bed. We can conference call for work, carpool for soccer and get permanent marker off of…wait…where is it? Well, some things we can’t do…
But, we can protect our Courts and can be the voice for women that can’t speak for themselves. It’s simple, share this video and sign the petition. You know, they say that, “well behaved women rarely make history.” Well, we couldn’t agree more. It’s up to us. Our kids are counting on us.
We’ve got this…sign the petition.
