JellO Essay 2
Seeking a male (age not important) who can do an accurate impression of Bill Cosby - particularly from his years on "The Cosby Show" and from his Jell-O pudding commercials. Impression should be accurate but not over-the-top. The actor should be able to deliver his conversational style, but should speak as if they are delivering advertising copy - and selling a product.

Reference to the Bill Cosby show:
“Standing in the midst of lawns, and shrubs, and shade trees,” with “red-tile roofs and broad skylights” and filled to the brim with “crystal gelatine – delicate, white, translucent, and pure and clean as falling snow”: such would be the Le Roy Jell-O factory described by the early-20th Century promotional materials published by the *************************. There “packages were made and filled by women dressed in nurselike whites,” the employees were all American and “none of the ingredients were touched by hands throughout the process of preparation.” If the excessive rhetoric of purity allayed the fears of a nation still reeling from The Jungle, Upton Sinclair’s 1906 expose of Chicago’s meat-packing industry, as academic ********************** has proposed, then it also solidifies Jell-O’s status as mass-industrial immaculate conception: a product of shining technological innovation that all but eradicates its foul origins, paving the way for a later identity as a Kosher product, and interpolating its granules with spirtual-mechanistic lore.

Yet the factory bleeds. In the early years it informed the community of the weekly flavor by the reds, yellows and blues seeping into the creek. Long after the company’s departure, in 1964, to a consolidated ************************************** – after, even, its life as ************************ carton and plastic manufacturer – “the repainted walls still leached red”, and the plant’s upper floor followed suit by transforming into a paintball arena. Tens of thousands of gelatin balls, filled with brightly colored paint, have since battered the factory in rituals of aggression, neo-expressionism, virilistic abandon – broken its windows, killed one person, near-asphyxiated most visitors, and drawn blood from its walls and ceilings, in the saccharine hues of unspoiled promise.

If asked on a slow Friday night, paintball manager Chuck will descend into its labyrinthine basement, fast accumulating the Cat5 cables and new lighting fixtures for the factory’s imminent rebirth as tech. production and records-management hub, and set rocking the pendulum of a small, mid-Century clock. By the midnight stroke, this ghost will rise to stalk its hallways, fiddle its switches, and play the building.
