So how does bible translation work?

Before translation even begins we must first ask the question.

Where is God working?

Although all people need the scripture, there are some places that are more ready than others.

Research must be done on the front end to gauge how ready a people group is for Bible translation.

Then we have to ask... What are the challenges?

Are there geographical or infastructure issues?
What’s the religious and political environment?
Are there any Heart Language speakers that can be trained as translators?
Is the local church community ready to help?

Once these questions are answered we can then identify a language group.

Now... no language translation ever has a one size fits all approach so we must use a customized strategy each time.

First a partnership must be developed with a local church. This helps determine the most needed passages of scripture that will have the most immediate impact.

Many languages that need Bible translation have never been written down, they come from oral cultures that pass down their language through stories.

So first the language is analyzed by local translators. And an alphabet and dictionary must be developed. Then it’s time to start translating the scriptures. It’s just as important that the MEANING of the scripture is clear as well as the words.

Once translated... the text is run through community testing to see how well others understand the translation.

After any corrections are made it’s then translated from this new text back into a major language for an outside consultant to review.

And finally the translators proof every word, every phrase, every tone and every mark to make sure there are no errors before publication.

Whenever one section of the Bible has been translated, it’s time to pass it out! No need to wait on the whole Bible to be translated; they need the truth of the scripture now!

This goes for audio translations, videos or bible story telling. Anything that can be shared as soon as it’s translated can have immediate impact.
What’s the result?

How do you measure the impact of the Scriptures?
The amazing stories and personal testimonies of how God and his Word have changed lives and communities are the best measurement. There are countless lives that have been changed by the power of the Word of God.

When all is said and done, God has promised that His word will accomplish the purpose for which he sent it. And that’s a guarantee...from God.
