Project Main Details
There’s a question whether or not he exists at all. Some would argue he's the main character’s dead dog talking to him from the grave; others might call him an alter ego; maybe a guardian angel; or maybe even a character from the main character's latest story. Regardless of his origin, his purpose is clear. He is there to be a guide to help the main character through a pivotal journey one that may very well define who the main character chooses to be from that point on and he will not be satisfied until a decision is made.

He sits at a picnic table watching the going ons of the
playground. The sound of children playing echoes in Steve's
head.
The leash extends to Thor's torso who faces away.
STEVE
What if it's "no"? Then what?
THOR (V.O.)
Then you do what we all do. Pick
your self up and keep on going?
STEVE
What if I don't want to?
THOR (V.O.)
Friend, want ain't got nothing to
do with it. It's a matter of will.
STEVE
I just don't know if I can.
THOR (V.O.)
What'd you think? You were going
to be on Inside the Actors Studio
telling your story to James Lipton?
Don't answer that. Let me guess.
Your favorite word is love and your
least favorite is hate. That's so
cliche.
STEVE
It's not like that.
THOR (V.O.)
It ain't huh? You had your whole
oscars' acceptance speech all
written out. Yeah, I know all
about that. You think those super
models and boy hunks even know you
exist? Is that what this is all
about? Some pathetic adolescent
prom queen fantasy.
He buries his head in his hands.
STEVE
Why do I keep doing this to myself?
EXT. PARK - WALL - SHORT TIME LATER
Several people pass leading us to Steve sitting on a stone
wall.
THOR (O.S.)
I wasn't going to say nothing but
you leave me no choice.
(beat)
I ain't always going to be here to
hold you up like this.
Steve looks over towards Thor as if the deja vu train just
hit him hard.
STEVE
Don't talk like that.
Steve gets up and looks around, suddenly filled with a sense
of confusion.
THOR (O.S.)
Me not talking about it ain't going
stop it from happening. It's going
get us all one of these days...some
of us sooner than others. That's
why you got to get a hold of this
cause I ain't got the time.
STEVE
Of course you do.
He darts around looking for the voice that's speaking to him
to his right.
THOR (O.S.)
You ain't listening.
(beat)
You know what your problem is?
He looks to his left.
STEVE
No. What?
THOR (O.S.)
You don't keep your feet planted on
the ground. You live up there in
the clouds...in a world that don't
exist. It's just a matter of time
before you fall again and the
longer you're up there, the harder
it's going to be.
He looks up in the sky.
THOR (O.S.) (CONT'D)
Damn it! What is is and what ain't
ain't. That don't make it right
but that's not for you and me to
decide. Why can't you understand
that?
He falls back onto the wall.
STEVE
I don't know.
THOR (O.S.)
You do know. So say it.
STEVE
I guess it's the dream.
THOR (O.S.)
You throw that word around like
it's some sort of revelation.
(mocking)
THE DREAM.
(beat)
Do you even know what that means.
He looks at his left hand to find it empty.
STEVE
I thought I did but so much has
happened since then.
THOR (O.S.)
(urging him)
It's right there friend. You just
got to say it.
STEVE
I don't know...maybe, it's the idea
I could have been something more
than what I am. That me and what I
feel...matters. That I wouldn't be
utterly alone and for the first
time really connect to something.
Not just talk about it but really
do it. Is that so wrong to want?
He looks down to see the leash on the ground. He follows it
to find Thor's back end. He takes a deep sigh of relief.
THOR (V.O.)
Well, there it is.
STEVE
What?
THOR (V.O.)
The why of it all, your raison
d'etre.
STEVE
So what are we supposed to do about
it.
THOR (V.O.)
I suppose there ain't much more we
can do but believe it's going to
take us somewhere.
STEVE
Where's that?
THOR (V.O.)
That's not for me to say. EXT. PARK - PLAY GROUND - SHORT TIME LATER
