Script Details

(Pacing should be just a little quicker than the example)

Final Script:
There’s a lot going on in business around here, and if you ask me, I’m one of the reasons why. Let me introduce myself…I’m innovation, and you’ll find me making an impact in businesses in our five-county region. Come with me and I’ll show you.
(Taylor Shellfish Segment)

At Taylor Shellfish in Shelton, you’ll find me all over the place!

Look at me here…looks like these oysters are getting an E-Ticket ride at Disneyland!

But look closer, thanks to new technology, these little shuckers are now flash frozen with nitrogen, making them taste so good you wouldn’t even know they were ever in a freezer! Yum!

But that’s not all. About a year and a half ago, Taylor created an offshore nursery for geoducks (pronounced gooey ducks). You know, those funny looking clams?

Well, now Taylor grows about 1.5 million of these little guys in bins that sit about 100 yards away from the shore and get raised out of the water with hydraulics. This nursery fits in a really small space so it is accommodated within Taylor’s existing permits. Plus it makes zero shoreline impact, and Taylor gets way more geoducks to sell to the US and Asian markets this way.

By the end of 2012, they’ll have a second one of these floating nurseries in place, meaning they’ll be able to grow 3 million at a time!
(Capitol City Press Segment)

Let’s head over to Capitol City Press in Tumwater, where the employees are the owners.

Wondering where you might find innovation in the printing industry? Well, here I am, in Capitol City’s new online print and streamlined print division they call “Print-Ready-Now.”

Print Ready Now has just launched this month and lets savvy buyers choose the level of service they prefer.

With Print Ready Now, people can visit the website, select their product, upload their art and view a real-time proof. Or just walk in with digital files or submit via email.

Gone are the costs of physical proofs, invoicing, sales staff, project managers, estimating and pre-press. But the expertise Capitol City Press is known for remains!

The result? Speed, quality and price, and in today’s competitive printing world, that’s BIG!

Plus, this growth will allow Cap City to continue their support of so many businesses and charities in our area.

(Sunset Air Segment)

Innovation can and does happen in businesses of all types. Even ones that have been around a long time!

That’s right. For 35 years, Lacey’s Sunset Air has been providing all kinds of heating, cooling and energy saving solutions…”

With their new “SCORE-SCOPE” process, they look high and low to assess a building’s energy use, then use all kinds of tools to find ways to increase efficiency and reduce costs.

Some savings can come from adjustments or new controls, while others come from changes to the building. Think of it as a specialized tune up for your building.

Then, to make sure the building stays it tip-top energy shape, they monitor it quarterly, making sure the cost savings keep rolling in! It’s common that savings can range from 30 to 50 percent, and building managers love saving money! Right Joe?

SCORE-SCOPE has been great for Sunset Air, too. It’s allowed them to get into the State ESCO (ESS-co) program for performance contracting, and that’s led to some big jobs!

Nice going, Sunset Air!

(Healthy Future Pediatrics Segment)

Hey, check me out at Healthy Future Pediatrics! Dr. Carl Lindgren built the first privately owned LEED certified medical building in Washington, so this place is healthy for his patients and all the staff and less of a burden for his patients’ future!

But that’s not all. Dr. Lindgren’s patients access a cool web tool called CHADIS (CHAD-iss) that allows them to help him screen for all kinds of conditions including developmental delays, behavioral issues, or even learning problems.

You see, this Doc is big into prevention, but it’s hard to get the info he needs in a regular office visit since parents often have their hands full with a sick child.

Now, his patients can be WAY ahead of the game, and parents love it!

What’s Dr. Lindgren’s next innovation? He’s already ahead of most pediatricians with electronic medical records, and next up is a new patient portal, complete with secure email communications between Carl and his patients’ parents.

(BrightWire Segment)

Now here’s an innovative company – BrightWire Networks! These Tumwater-based technology gurus think innovation all day long. Whether they’re remotely monitoring clients’ network systems, helping businesses plan for change, or designing cool solutions for just about anything, their lightbulbs are always on!

Over at Dr. Fedak’s (fe-DAKK) dental practice in Lacey, BrightWire implemented slick touch screen monitors that help the doc connect with patient records and develop treatment plans for his open-mouthed customers.

They’ve also implemented space saving wireless printing, streamlined the admin team’s technology needs, and are now discussing chairside digital radiography with Dr. Fedak.

At GHB Insurance, BrightWire designed a secure-email system that’s HIPAA compliant, set up remote access for GHB staff that’s out on the road, and created a clever cloud-based system for the company’s backups, so all their sensitive insurance information is safe and sound.

Thanks to Brightwire, the GHB’s team’s mobile devices are all integrated smoothly, and if anything ever does go wrong, there is a convenient Help Desk Portal that’s there to save the day.

See what I mean? Innovation is a big deal in our region. And these are just a few of the examples. Want to talk about innovation at your business – just call my friends at the Thurston EDC…they’ll be glad to assist you in any way they can…hey, have an innovative day!
