Closing the Loop
Learn how plastic containers are recycled.

Did you know plastic takes about 1 million years to break down naturally?

In 2012 British Columbia recycled over 10,000 tons of plastic bottles. That’s as much as 2500 Orcas.

Here’s how its done:

Plastic bottles are brought to Regional Recycling where we pay Full Deposit on all refundable beverage containers.

They are sorted into bags by type.

Then shipped to a plastic reprocessing plant where they can begin the recycling process.

The bottles are put through an intense wash process to remove labels and contaminates.

They are Shredded to tiny pieces,

Then pressed into tiny pellets.

Pellets are sent to manufactures and used to make new products like liquid containers, packaging, buckets, and more.

Recycling plastics uses about 1/3 less energy than manufacturing new plastic.

Lets keep this non biodegradable material out of our landfills. Bring in your plastic containers to Regional Recycling “Your one stop recycling shop”.
