Jutting out into the broad and rolling Susquehanna River, just south of Columbia, Pennsylvania, stands a promontory steeped in history.
Five centuries ago, the Susquehannock tribe, migrating south from New York, found this promontory and the lush lands that surrounded it. They fished, farmed and harvested maize, squash and beans beneath its summit. And, for the ample game they hunted in it’s woods, the Susquehannocks named this place “Turkey Hill.”
Later, European settlers, including descendents of William Penn, farmed and raised dairy cows near Turkey Hill on land granted to Penn by English King Charles II.
