Project Main Details

Hispanic teen educational animation male voices 

Synopsis: A United States research university has grant funding for an animated educational program aimed at Hispanic teens age 12 to 13. The educational series will have 20 episodes overall. Ten episodes will have a 14 year old male teen as the protagonist/lead character and 10 episodes will have a 14 year old female teen as the protagonist/lead character. Other characters include teen friends, parents, a teacher, and a 6 year old sister. The characters interact in home, school and business situations encountering life situations that create learning opportunities. Some characters are required to be bilingual in English and Spanish. The average word count of each episode is anticipated to be 3,000 words for a total project size of 60,000 words. Approximately 80% of the dialog will involve the main teen characters Mateo and Jennifer.
Project Requirements: The voice actor selected should be prepared to meet the following minimum capabilities and terms:
1. The voice actor will record all script lines in their own studio or location.
2. To facilitate the animation, each file will include one sentence or line.
3. The voice actor will have the option to provide alternate lines to improve the flow of the script.
4. The file format should be a finished .wav file.
5. The files should be edited to provide consistent volume and quality.
6. The finished .wav files should be transferred via a file transfer system with Dropbox preferred.
7. Voice actors should submit audition samples for each character voice they wish to be considered for. Due to the limited number of lines for other characters, preference will be given to voice actors that can perform all of the characters of a gender.
8. Finalists will be selected from the audition samples and will be provided with the complete set of scripts and access to 2 sample animated episodes with computer generated voices in order to prepare a detailed proposal.
9. The episodes should be recorded and provided in groups 4 to 6 episodes at a time with a goal of completion of 20 episodes by August 15, 2013.
10. Fixed price proposals based on the final scripts will be preferred.
11. The educational program will be deployed for a period of 3 to 5 years. The voice actor should provide a schedule of rates and availability for re-recording or enhancements.

Auditions submissions should include the following.
For the role of Mateo, audition scene 1 must be submitted and either audition scene 2 or Mateo's role in audition scene 3 . These scenes include stage directions for the animator which will not be read. The term user refers to the student/participant in the training program. Audition files should state the character name(s) being considered and scene number. .wav file format is preferred.
Male audition scene 1 - Mateo Spanish and Dad Spanish

Teacher and Mateo’s dad sit.

Teacher: Hi Mr. Lopez
Mateo: El dice, hola Señor Lopez
Dad: Hola
Teacher: Overall, Mateo has been doing very well academically. He’s very smart. However, he’s been very disruptive in class, making it hard for other students to learn.
Mateo: El dice, “En general, Mateo ha estado haciendo muy bien en la escuela. Él es muy inteligente. Él es muy popular y tiene muchos amigos
Dad: que es excelente
Mateo: He said that’s very disappointing
Teacher: Are you sure? It sounds a lot like he said excellent. Mateo, are you being honest here?

Mateo looks back and forth between his dad and teacher- caught!

Mateo to user: I decided to tell my dad what I wanted him to hear, and I totally got caught. I didn’t realize how similar some English and Spanish words sound. My teacher realized I wasn’t translating what he was saying! I don’t think he is going to trust me anytime soon! Is there a better option?

As you can see in this scene, my teacher wants me to tell my dad in Spanish that I am not behaving in class. He won’t know though if I don’t tell him. My dad will get mad at me if I tell him the truth. What should I do?

Male audition scene 2 - Mateo English

! My name is Mateo, and I’m 14. Like you, I go to school, I hang out with my friends, and I watch TV. I think we are going to have a lot of fun together over the next 10 weeks.

Through a set of videos, I am going to share experiences I have, and together we are going to figure out how to handle these situations. These experiences are ones you may have too. They are all related to growing up, to balancing friends and family, to dealing with peer pressure, and to being responsible. Throughout each video, I will stop the video and ask you what I should do. Pick the answer you think is the best choice. I will then follow your advice. That advice may or may not work well. That’s alright- people make mistakes! Together, we will see if there is a better choice. You can see what happens as a consequence of every choice. Feel free to explore! If you need to re-watch the video before answering, go ahead! I hope you enjoy watching me and my friends tackle life’s tough situations. I think you’ll learn some things you can apply to your own life too!

Male audition scene 3- Mateo English Carlos English

Carlos and Mateo slam their lockers shut.

Carlos: Hey Mateo, you wanna come over and watch a movie at my house?
Mateo: I don’t know, tryouts are next week.
Carlos: Don’t worry about that. You’re a shoo-in. You’ll totally make the team
Mateo: Yea….how about we watch soccer at your place at least?
Carlos: Yea- sounds good. Cool.

INSERT on a calendar flipping through days of the year.

Mateo moves his feet over the ball- rapid fire then tries flipping the ball over his head to move past the defender but he gets stopped and falls flat on the ground.

Coach: “Can’t keep up huh Teo? Looks like you’ve been watching too much soccer and not playing enough.”

The soccer ball flies over Mateo’s head, as a teammate chases it down. Mateo is still stunned from falling on the ground.

Mateo to user: “I chose to watch soccer instead of play it and then I was out of shape when I went to tryout. My coach could tell I had been sitting and watching soccer instead of staying in shape, and now I’m afraid I won’t make the team! I may have learned more about the game from watching soccer on TV, but it didn’t really help me like I thought it was going to. What should I have done when Carlos wanted to hang out?”

Male audition scene 4 - Teacher/Coach

Mateo and Jennifer walk up to teacher.

Teacher: So, I’ve looked over your homework and the answers are identical….and Jennifer, there’s no work shown on yours.
Jennifer: Ok?
Teacher: Well, no, not okay…did you copy Mateo’s work?
Jennifer: Uhhmm....yes. I’m sorry, I’m really sorry- I forgot to do it, and I didn’t want to fail the assignment because it’s worth so much of our grade, and…I’m really sorry.
Teacher: Ok…Mateo, do you want to say anything?
Mateo: I was just trying to help her out. I didn’t want her to fail, but...(sigh)
Teacher: Well, I’m sorry you both did this. You’re both going to get a zero for the assignment. Cheating isn’t tolerated in my class.

Male audition scene 5 - Max English

Mateo slams his locker shut when he’s approached by a fellow student.

Max: Hey Teo, I haven’t seen your girlfriend around lately. Did she finally come to her senses and realize what a pathetic loser you are?? Ha- you don’t mind if I give her a call though, do ya? I mean- just as a friend, you know? Thanks, buddy!

Male auditions scene 6 - Waiter English and Spanish

The place is packed. Loud chatting fills the room.

Waiter: Would you like still or sparkling water?
Mateo: What?
Waiter (really slowly and louder): Would you like still or sparkling water?
Mateo: What?
Waiter: No hablas ingles? ¿le gustaría agua estancada o agua con gas?
Mateo: Huh?
