In April of 2012, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, or EEOC, issued updated guidance on the use of arrest and conviction records for hiring and employment purposes. Their ruling provides guidance to both employers who use criminal background checks and to individuals who believe they've been subject to discrimination because of their criminal records.
