SOUNDS CONVERSATION

NOTE: Lighting effects will provide the shadows of Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia where Milton Hershey’s little shop was located in 1881.

LOOPING AMBIENCE- Around the Philadelphia Shop structure we will hear a looping ambient sound track that captures the sounds of Philadelphia- circa 1881. We may hear horse drawn wagon traffic, and perhaps a policeman’s whistle as he directs traffic. We will hear foot traffic, perhaps the sound of a large bell tower clock striking an afternoon hour, and/or the whistle of a train in the background

EXTERIOR SOUNDS: On a timed basis, we will hear a Exterior Specific track featuring foot traffic along Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia (1881) – with the sounds of a horse drawn streetcar passing close by, perhaps pushcart peddlers selling their wares.

SOUNDS CONVERSATION

INTERIOR SOUNDS: We will hear a little bell on the door of the “M.S. Hershey Shop” ringing as a young couple enters the shop.

INTERIOR CONVERSATION: We will hear young Milton Hershey and his Aunt Mattie greeting the couple as they enter Hershey’s shop

YOUNG WOMAN: “What a wonderful candy shop.”

AUNT MATTIE: May we help you folks?

YOUNG MAN: “ Yes, please…We followed our noses to you fresh candies!”
MILTON: “Made from the best ingredients. Here, try one, Miss…

YOUNG WOMAN: Oh my… Yes indeed… Delicious! And, look! Candied fruit as well.

AUNT MATTIE: May we pack a nice mixture for you?

YOUNG MAN: Please do! Some caramels, candied fruit, and a quarter pound of your sugar almonds.

AUNT MATTIE: There you are.

YOUNG WOMAN: Oh, thank you!

SFX: Sound of door bell clinking again as the couple leaves t he shop YOUNG MAN: Good day !

MILTON: And you, Sir. Thank you!
(aside to Aunt Mattie) Aunt Mattie, people like my products, but we’re running out of money to pay the rent on the shop.

AUNT MATTIE: (wearily) I know, Milton…I know. You must write to your Uncle Abraham. Perhaps he can send money to help you.

MILTON: I hope so, If not, I’m afraid we will soon be out of business.
