Project Main Details

Henrys Brain VO
In order to raise awareness of Chronic Environmental Stress we are putting together a short video to explain what it is and how it can be prevented. This is a non-profit sponsored video by Futures Without Violence and because of this our budget for VO is small. But hopefully by giving this a professional Voice Over it will help people stay focused on the content longer and be more willing to share and support.

Did you know that 60% of U.S. children have been exposed to violence, sexual abuse or trauma in the past year?

It’s called - Chronic Environmental Stress.

Nearly 2/3 of American youth suffer from this kind of toxic stress. And science shows that our kids are paying the price.

Here’s what’s happening: When the human brain experiences fear, it floods the body with stress hormones that prepare us for danger. But when a child’s developing brain is exposed to repeated violence or trauma that hurricane of hormones can be toxic.

The research confirms that bullying, violence and trauma literally change the way their minds function – even damaging their bodies – which can lead to chronic physical and mental illness. In fact, prolonged exposure to stress can lead to mood swings, anxiety, depression and even PTSD. These kids are less likely to do well in school and are more likely to get into trouble. And while some might label the child as a bad kid, it’s more likely that he is a actually a hurt kid.

The good news is that toxic stress and be disrupted and children’s brains can return to normal function.

With the help of a caring, supportive adult, many traumatized kids are able to hear, thrive and succeed. It starts with a trusting relationship with a teacher, coach, neighbor or mentor. Someone who will stand up for them. Someone who will listen. Maybe that someone is you.
