This chart shows how the Monthly medical premium is chAanging over time.
It is important to note that the Trust is a service to cities. We aren’t trying to make a profit – just break even. With that in mind – the costs of the premiums are reflective of what it takes to pay all of the claims by our members.
Let’s break this down by looking a little closer at the PPO Plan: The green bars illustrate a single employee on the P.P.O. Plan. In nineteen ninety seven, the monthly employee premium was a hundred and forty dollars. Over the course of the next ten years, that employee’s premium almost tripled, to where it sits today at three hundred and seventy seven dollars.
Full family premiums are increasing at a similarly staggering rate.
The industry predicts that the past ten year increases will apply to the next ten years. When compounded, this results in another two hundred seventy percent increase and brings the twenty seventeen P.P.O. Employee only premium to one thousand seventeen dollars per month.
