Project Main Details

Haiti Philanthropic Film
We are producing a philanthropic feature documentary about Haiti and the inspiring rebuild going on after the 2010 earthquake. The opening title sequence acts as a mini "History of Haiti" and we are seeking voiceover talent to fill in gaps where "old time" existing audio does not exist. The talent will need to be able to read the script as a "1960's 60 Minutes host might" with the same sort of delivery common at that time, and the audio effected to be flawed and of not perfect quality as if the audio was recorded in 1960 and found today.

We are hopeful talent will audition for this history section that has a very good chance of being seen on television and DVD. It is an important project that we are passionate about.

In 1803 Napolean's army was defeated by the Haitian slave rebellion, forcing the French into the Louisiana Purchase.

January One, 1804, Haiti declared independence, the world's only successful slave revolt.

The US was afraid of the Haitians inspiring a slave revolt at home and refused to even recognize Haiti.

Said US Senator Hayne of South Carolina: "Our policy with Haiti is we can never acknowledge her independence. The peace and safety of our Union forbids us to even discuss it.

In 1825 the French demanded reparations for their loss of slaves and plantations.

Desperate for trading partners and international recognition, Haiti agreed to pay France and became buried under massive debt.

It was Lincoln in 1862 to finally recognize Haiti's independence.

In 1915 US President Woodrow Wilson sent military troops to occupy Haiti to QUOTE "maintain the peace and safety of our shores."

Later that year the US banks would take over Haiti's treasury and imports and exports.

US General Barnett said in 1919, "The indiscriminate killings of the natives is the most startling thing that has ever taken place in the Marine Corps."

It was 1934 when President Roosevelt wrote Haiti's constitution and finally called for the withdrawal of US troops.

In 1957 Dr. Francois Duvalier, or Papa Doc, was selected President.

He built a militia and began a reign of terror in the country.
