For our first example, let’s look at Equipotential Bracket Grounding. This example illustrates working on multiple wood poles of a distribution main line to change out arms and insulators, utilizing the Equipotential Bracket Grounding Method.
This diagram illustrates that both sources have already been opened.
A clearance shall be taken between the open taps and the pole switch. Signs shall be applied at all openings.
Clean, test and ground the line between the work site and each source of supply.
In this diagram, the grounds are less than 2500 feet apart. The worksite is within 1250 feet of a bracket ground. To create a workspace EPZ, install a pole band and one shunt from the pole band to one phase that is continuous between bracket grounds. This is a new option to create a workspace EPZ.
This diagram illustrates work sites at various distances from the grounds.
•Option A. Install a pole band and one shunt from the pole band to one phase that is continuous between bracket grounds. The distance is less than 1250 feet from your bracket grounds. This is a new option to create a workspace EPZ.
When your bracket grounds are greater than 1250 feet from the worksite the following options are available to create a workspace EPZ:
•Option B. Install a pole band and shunts from the pole band to the phases being worked on and other phases within the minimum approach distance.
•Option C. Install a pole band with a shunt to the conductor you’re working on and cover all other phases within the minimum approach distance.
