Project Main Details

This project is for Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. It is for Internet.

We need 1 x announcer (and if you know any kids that would like to audition, the more ethnically diverse, the better send 'em along ::)

The announcer should should be male, 45 - 55 and the read should be non-announcery. The first half of the spot (the longer one is 2.5 min) is very somber, but then lightens up. So we need someone authoritative, but also fairly emotive.

You will need to have ISDN or phone patch capabilities or have a studio available to you that has ISDN or phone patch capabilities. If you are local to the DC/Baltimore area, we will record at one of our studios

Script Details

Script for auditions below.
CHILD1: (FLAT) Children adapt.
CHILD2: (FLAT) Children are resilient.

VO: (GENDER TBD) That’s been the conventional
wisdom for many generations.
But for many children, that’s more of a wish
than a reality.
Because for the victims of child trauma, resilience
is anything but guaranteed.

CHILD3: The trauma ends, but it doesn’t really
go away.

VO: Although it’s not always visible to the outside
world, child trauma changes the course of a life.

CHILD4: You don’t forget. (PAUSE) You can’t forget.

VO: The scars can become a permanent part
of who they are.
And how they see and react to the world.
It affects their relationships,
their families,
their jobs,
their sense of self worth.
We call it child trauma.

YOUNG MAN: But it can be lifelong trauma.

VO: And it’s a tragedy that occurs each and every day
in America.

CHILD5: In fact, each year, half of U.S. children
aged 2 to 17 are victims of a physical assault.
CHILD1: One in three witnesses violence.
CHILD3: One in twelve suffers sexual assault.

VO: In one recent year, HHS reported that 772,000
children experienced abuse or neglect.
CHILD4: Society also pays the price.

VO: Up to 93% of youth entering the criminal justice
system have been exposed to child trauma.
And, of course, significant costs are incurred by
school systems,
law enforcement,
social services,
health care providers and systems.
How significant?
One study estimated the annual cost of child abuse
and neglect to be nearly $104 billion dollars.

CHILD2: $104 billion.
VO: Child trauma is a national tragedy.
Fortunately, now there is help.
CHILD4: Now there is hope.

VO: We can’t always prevent the trauma itself.
But together we can minimize its impact
on all of us.
Now even those with the darkest past
can enjoy a brighter future.
Counseling more survivors
Changing the course
of children’s lives
