Project Main Details
5 minute video telling stories of farmers in Tanzania and how the company is helping them learn proper farming practices to better their lives. There are interviews in the video that will need to be read as "quotes". 2 different people are interviewed, the rest is narration/VO. I would love the VO to be excited, but not overly excited. Like a farmer is telling a story about his life and his village. Told with passion. 2015-09-28 22:08:46 GMT 2015-09-28 17:22:20 (GMT -07:00) Mountain Time (US & Canada) Yes (click here to learn more about ) Closed - Note: This project was manually closed by the voice seeker before it reached its original deadline. 0 0 0 direct invitation(s) have been sent by the voice seeker resulting in 0 audition(s) and/or proposal(s) so far. Mt. Kilimanjaro, The Roof of Africa, rises over 19,000 feet standing as the highest point in Africa. Its glacier-covered peak has gained attention as the ice cap is disappearing at an alarming rate.
The condition of Mt. Kilimanjaro is partly due to the deforestation taking place in surrounding areas. Timber is necessary for cooking and construction. Land is cleared for farming. Cutting down trees can be a quick source of money for those living in poverty.
However, the benefits of a healthy forest are many as they improve atmospheric conditions, add organic matter to soil, and anchor topsoil.
Plant With Purpose partners are gaining an understanding of the vital role trees play in their livelihood.
“We learned from Plant With Purpose the importance of planting trees, that God cares about the environment and we have a responsibility to protect it. So we started the first tree nursery in this area. In a few years, we have planted over 13,000 trees: fruit trees of many kinds and forest trees that grow tall and protect the land.”
Mungubariki’s community of Masia Mamba <> is not alone in their reforestation efforts. Partnering farmers are reversing the trajectory of environmental conditions. Each year <>, since 2012, they’ve planted more than one million trees.
The motivation behind this impressive effort <> is competition.
The competition concludes with an organic agriculture festival and awards ceremony. Farmers from across the Kilimanjaro region contribute organic vegetables to the rich display of local produce. More than three thousand people gathered this year to celebrate one another’s success!
Plant With Purpose is seeing tremendous transformation. Because of sustainable agriculture training, farmers have more food for their families. As the land produces more, farmers are growing in their understanding of God’s love and care. Their organic produce is in high demand at market, increasing incomes. Savings groups are creating financial stability. People are moving beyond day-to-day survival.
For many, the difference is rooted in trees.
Parents, like August, are working hard to heal their lives and land.
“Before Plant With Purpose began working in my community, people cut down trees for their own use, like building homes or furniture. They didn’t think to replace them.”
The local church became the catalyst for the community’s understanding of God’s heart for His creation.
“Plant With Purpose conducted training on the importance of trees for protecting the environment. That’s why I started a tree nursery, so that we too can plant trees and restore the land.”
For those dependent on the land for survival this restoration is vital. Awareness is key for brighter futures.
“Without knowledge of the importance of trees, people just think of today and not tomorrow. Plant With Purpose is changing that. What farming families do today is for future generations.”
As environmental restoration is embraced, lives and land are changing in Tanzania. Birds are returning to once quiet habitat. Dried streams flow again. And people have a better understanding of their role as stewards of God’s creation.
For Plant With Purpose, much of this goes back to trees, <> a little competition, <> and working to plant for tomorrow and for generations to come.
