Because of focused, evidence-based Reentry and Aftercare Programs, offenders across the state are transforming their lives and successfully reintegrating into society. Their successes are due to the growing availability of rehabilitative programs and the dedication of CDCR staff who are making offender rehabilitation a top priority.

The Division of Rehabilitative Programs is working with its partners to address a range of criminogenic needs:
• Substance Abuse
• Education
• Employment
• Anger Management
• Criminal Thinking
• Family relationships
• Housing

The commitment and encouragement of correctional staff is an important resource for offenders who decide to change their lives by taking advantage of programs within prison.

Reverend Earl Smith was a chaplain at San Quentin Prison for two decades. He understands the importance of programs in the process of change: Community based programs support offenders after their release. The Division of Rehabilitative Programs funds a growing network of these programs throughout California.

Programs include:
• Residential substance abuse treatment
• Step-down Sober Living Environments with outpatient treatment
• Residential life skills and employment programs
• Day Reporting Centers (some with transitional housing)
• Classroom-based substance abuse relapse prevention and
• Computer Literacy Learning Labs

These programs provide essential resources for re-integrating offenders into the community, provide stability and prevent recidivism. All are free to the parolee.
