Hello,

This project is for a school that helps children with learning disabilities to help them achieve normal lives.

It's a privately funded facility and they are using this as an informational piece during a presentation to raise money for a new school building.

The recording is going with a 5min video montage that the school will be showing at fundraising events.

Thanks.

(Setting the stage – establishing the need)

Nearly 3 million children in the United States are challenged by a hidden, lifelong disability. These are children who are intelligent, creative students with the same dreams as the rest of their peers. They want to graduate from high school and college, start a family, and contribute to their communities through meaningful work. These are children who climb mountains every day with the hope that they can overcome their learning disability…and the odds of failure.

8-10% of school age children suffer with one or more learning disabilities. The sad fact is that this group of students is highly intelligent, yet they struggle to learn the same academic and social skills as their peers due to dyslexia, processing dysfunction, memory deficits and challenges with attention. These are students who may be labeled as incapable of learning, non-motivated, or lazy. Labels can lead to failure. Nearly 50% of students with learning disabilities drop out of high school. Many will enter the workplace with reading skills below 3rd grade. As much as 75% of our incarcerated population may have one or more learning disabilities.

Our public schools are overwhelmed with the number of students who are failing each year and this failure is weakening the fabric of our community.

(What we are doing about it)

In Fort Myers, Florida, ********************* is a beacon of hope to these children and their families, the only school of its kind. Students at the academy benefit from small class sizes of 12 or less and a highly specialized, intensive program designed specifically to meet their needs. 70 students ages 6 – 18 come to school each day believing that they can achieve. They enroll with the burden of early failures, yet they are resilient and eager to turn toward the challenge that lies ahead and climb to success. Father Anglim Academy’s staff reaches out to support them through every step of their journey, encouraging…motivating… educating. Students are given the light of hope, the challenge to work hard, and the promise that every child can learn and succeed. 100% of students who have attended Father Anglim Academy have stayed in school.

(What we need)

Enrollment at ********************* has steadily increased since it opened its doors in 2002, and the school now turns away more students than its facility can hold. No student should be denied the opportunity to achieve their potential…or their dreams. Our school community has a plan for reaching twice as many students in a larger facility. Your support will provide a chance for 140 students with learning disabilities to overcome obstacles…to believe in themselves…and ultimately give back to their community. Can we afford not to help?
