Fragile Minds ZD108493
*************** is a live performance production written for a high school percussion ensemble (drumline). The topic of the production surrounds the everyday and increasing pressures put on teenagers to succeed in life. In addition, the ability of the performers to overcome stress and mental anguish. The performances take place in large gyms or arenas and are part of regional and national competitions put on by WGI - Winter Guard International. Typical audience attendance can be in the 1,000 - 10,000 range. Our group is amongst the top ten high school programs in the nation, and we're looking for rich, deep, clear, engaging narration to enhance the professional quality of the show. 1. "The will is the driving force of the mind. If it's injured, the mind falls to pieces."
Emphasis on "will, driving, mind, it's, and falls" - Hard "d" on "mind". Hard "j" on "injured", hang on "falls", let the word itself fall in pitch slightly, excited or sizzled "s" on "pieces". Full voice, medium volume.
2. "Stress can make a strong mind, fragile"
Emphasis on "Stress, strong, and fragile". Excited or sizzled "s" on "stress", pause slightly after "mind". "Fragile" in the title of the production so we need this word to stand out in a way, try a different volume, or other techniques you may find best to separate this word from the rest. Half voice, medium volume.
3. "Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing.”
Emphasis on "Power, tearing, pieces, shapes, together, shapes, and own". "p's" shouldn't POP too much. "tearing" should have an edge or harshness to the pronunciation. Full voice, medium volume.
4. "Human's best successes come after their disappointments."
Emphasis on "best and after". Said softly, as if condoling a child or close friend. Excited or sizzled "s" in "successes" and "disappointments". Half voice, medium-soft volume.
